The 279 at Manor House for sure. It has to do a U-turn in the middle of a dual carriageway - couldn’t believe it when I saw it the first time Yeah it’s an absolute joke at times. For me it should be extended to either Finsbury Park or Newington Green although Finsbury Park is pretty full I believe. Buses have done this turn for years, even when the route operated to Smithfield and Holloway there were always shorts to Manor House. Although perhaps the traffic wasn't as heavy in those days. Maybe something similar to Archway or Waterloo would help where a u-turn is controlled by lights. Can't see the route being extended, although maybe the 'round the corner' link towards Newington Green would be useful.

I think 279 is already long as it is and considering how busy it can be, an extension is a no no for me. They could make the road layout similar to Waterloo where the lights control the traffic so that 279s or any other route curtailing there from the north can be u-turns safely

Can't believe no one's mentioned it yet but Petersham Road... what a bloody mess. Listed houses and their gigantic gardens meaning an incredibly narrow stretch which is hell for bus drivers especially the 65. Reversing, mounting the pavement, waiting. The even more frustrating thing is they can't do anything about it, and that section is a bottleneck on an already crucially important road.

Maybe Pools on the Park in Richmond can be a tricky stand because when I was working at Westbus and taking schools to here at times it was tight especially if there was another coach here and a 490... So moving on from tricky roads, what about Tricky Stands or turning points? The 279 at Manor House for sure. It has to do a U-turn in the middle of a dual carriageway - couldn’t believe it when I saw it the first time Why isn't there a bus lane there? The 178 used to do a detour onto Henley Cross and do a U-turn until the road closed last year, and the P13 does the same thing in East Dulwich!

I'd probably nominate Sewell Road and Grovebury Road on the 469. Sewell Road has no proper pavement, so oftentimes you see buses stopping in front of car parking garages. Grovebury Road is worse though, as the curve from Sewell Road is pretty sharp, and the road is extremely narrow. A better idea would be to reroute the 469 via more of Sewell Road, and then Harrow Manorway.

Plus you factor in the congestion the route already encounters.

Have you seen the road layout at Manor House because it already has a near side bus lane so not sure what your referring to. The P13 doesn’t do a U-turn at East Dulwich - it has a double run via Sainsbury’s and two way access along Pytchley Road for bus & cycles only. It’s not the same thing as the 279.

Alexandra and Durants Road on the 191. Clearly too small for a bus to go there especially double decks. One 191 had to go on the pavement to make way for the bus that I was on to pass through

The U5/350/A10 through Stockley Park. Loads of speed bumps, twists and turns. In fact the U5 through Mulberry Parade area is also quite difficult with endless turns too.

Since the 384 was rerouted eastbound via the western section of Salisbury Road in Barnet, this has been causing a lot of problems. Lots of angry and very long stand-offs between buses and vehicles coming in the opposite direction because there are no passing places between cars parked on both sides, and there is a bend in the road that means drivers from one end can't see the bus coming from the other before it's too late and they meet in the middle where it's too far for either to reverse.
This was all pointed out to TfL at the time but they didn't care because they said it would more 'direct'. The irony is that when there is a stand-off lasting sometimes up to an hour, the next buses revert to the previous, much more suitable route of Alston and Strafford roads, which do have passing places. But of course they don't stop in between so all the people already suffering longer walks because of the rerouting have to watch or be on the bus at it takes the old route but they can't get on and off, not even at The Spires.
I don't know why TfL are so pigheaded but once they make a change they will never admit they made a mistake whatever the evidence and feedback says.

The even more frustrating thing is they can't do anything about it, and that section is a bottleneck on an already crucially important road. This was the reason why the 65 and 71 were restricted to RTs for a long time. Eventually the routes were converted to RMs. It must be a candidate for light controlled single lane alternate traffic now. Tommy Steele owns the house with the long wall on one side of the road.
