I remember in my area the 43 was diverted via Shoreditch / Liverpool Street on Sundays (vice Moorgate). Also the 4 was Archway - Angel on a Sunday, 17 was Archway-KGX on weekends, and Grey Green had their Volvos working the 19 on Sundays. Then there were all the Brent Cross curtailments outside of ‘shopping hours’ Same thing with the 245 like the Brent Cross when Alperton was a shopping hours and all buses ended at Sunbury Town before it be came a all day running and week

The Sunday variations were usually to give garages work where their Monday to Friday work was much busier.
Something different back in 70s when the Red Arrow network was more comprehensive during the week. This meant Walworth garage had lots of drivers wanting weekend overtime. This was when the buses had coin in the slot fares with turnstiles so no cash handling for the drivers. They wanted something simple so rail replacements were very popular.

Of course the worst aspect of Sunday variation in the 90’s was Midibuses . London United were particularly awful, with big bus routes 9,111,120,220,267,285 and 290 being DT/DR operation. At one point, FW only fielded 11 M’s on Sundays on the 71 and half the allocation of the 281 ( 3 each between AV and FW). Only began to change when the shops were allowed to open on Sundays which created a big rise in passengers on Sundays, But it did also see L’s on the 94, T’s from CF on the 10 which was nice to see in Hammersmith, and one of my favourite Sunday extension, the 7 to Richmond. Can also remember the 222 being operated by MA’s on a Sunday too, from memory, that was from around 1990 till the route was converted to the LLW’s. Although can’t remember if the 223 also gained them up till it was withdrawn, I imagine it did though. Can also remember walking along Oxford Street one Sunday afternoon during the early 00’s and seeing an Uxbridge Buses branded TNL on the 7. Initially I thought it was a loan, then I saw a few more, Once I got home, I was straight on the net to find out that AT had taken over the Sunday service. The elusive U8 was another good route, covering a lot of the U1, U2 and part of the 348.

147 also had a few Seven Kings garage journeys on Sundays in the early 90s.

The E7's shopping hours service in Ruislip is longer on Sundays (as well as Saturdays) than during the week.

On a Sunday morning and early afternoon the 5 was extended from Canning Town to Old Street to serve Petticoat Lane market with last buses leaving Old Street around 1530. The 25 had the weekend deviation VIA Tower until it was converted to bendy bus in 2004. The 243 was numbered 243A on a Sunday and went via Liverpool Street to serve the market but not sure when that finished.

The first few times that I did the 243 on a Sunday, I was always late enough to spin round the roundabout and pick up at the 1st stop straight away. Then came the fateful day that I had stand time. So, I tried to follow the correct procedure and got very, very lost. I ended up at Hoxton market and AR had to send a controller in a car to get me out. Fortunately the route was altered to Waterloo at all times soon after.

Lots of routes had different types on Sundays too.
Route 147 used DRLs in the late 90s D7 used DRL, DWL also in the 90s Route 262 used tiny Starriders in the early 90s Route 7 also used DWLs on Sundays
And of course all the Routemaster routes used OPO buses apart from route 13 until a few other routes such as the 8 started using RMLs 7 days a week.

I think the 238 at one point on Sundays used to be operated by BK garage. Also the 369 (when it was around) used to have the small darts on Sundays

Who could forget the 271 running to Liverpool street on the weekends I remember that, it was actually very handy (141 did that too?). IIRC the 21 also had no weekend service north of London Bridge?
