Now the cat is out of the bag, I’ll put it here; it will be another one close by next, there are a few garages up for review; I won’t mention them at this moment in time just because I don’t feel it’s right to, but a clue will be to look at the fleet of some of the garages.

I think we'll be speculating about the whole of Arriva UK Bus if we're talking about the fleet state! if I had to speculate, Hemel, MK, Harlow and Stevenage mustn't be too far along that road....

MK is actually a profit making garage, as is Luton, you’ll be seeing some vehicle cascades shortly as the fleet is trimmed down. This Isquared are ruthless and reading between the lines I said this would happen. Arriva will become a shadow of their former self. London garages aren’t safe either.

This is what happens when a private equity firm with no real transport related experience buys into a company that was already struggling to turn a profit.

Seen nothing to say the deal has completed.

I suspect the lack of announcements via any channels is due to the fact it’s not the all smiles and laughter, but doom (trimming) on the horizon. The new fit for purpose plan as they put it is all about getting rid of the unprofitable parts of Arriva and diverting funds to more profitable parts of the operation. It also coincides with the pay rise from £16 to £17 for PCV license holders. I must add High Wycombe’s closing date is 31st August 2024 while Aylesbury will be 27th July 2024.

But there has not even been a regulatory statement in Germany which I would have expected. There is a lot of pressure on DB to reduce debt, so would have expected bells and whistles there.

Over the last 6 months DB cut back on a lot of staff before the handover.

It’s very odd that there wasn’t an announcement or confirmation from any of the countries where iSquared, DB and Arriva are based. They don’t call it merger Monday for nothing.

"DB Arriva plc" is still listed as a DB Group business unit and in turn, Arriva Group isn't shown on I Squared's Investments page yet. In addition a Reuters article from 24 April (regarding talk of Labour renationalising the GB railway) was updated the day after with this remark: For the sale to close on 6 April and the relevant parties keeping it hush-hush to the extent a major news agency "incorrects" their article relating to it does seem like a weird flavour of conspiracy.

That’s interesting, I was told it had all gone through, I wonder how long now and why they’re looking at cutting services prior to the new owner going live, I reckon there’s more to come.

That’s interesting, I was told it had all gone through, I wonder how long now and why they’re looking at cutting services prior to the new owner going live, I reckon there’s more to come. What's peculiar is that Private Equity Firms don't often hang about when it comes to sales, they usually like to get in quickly to salvage as much of the company as they can before it depreciates in value even further. The closing of garages like what's going on is also typical behaviour of Private Equity firms where they try to make a quick buck where they can by selling leaseholds. Going forward we're probably likely to see any sites that are owned being sold for hefty volumes of cash and then leased back at very favourable rates or completely done away with if not. I would also imagine if there are any newer buses around that they'll also be sold and leased back if anyone is happy to do it. While I'm not sure what's delaying the sale, Arriva will come out of the other end of this two ways, both of which will probably have iSquared rubbing their hands with glee. A leaner and more efficient company will emerge on the other end that is set up for the future or no company will emerge at all as all its assets were sold for good prices. Private Equity firms are there to make money so I doubt anything that's sold will be loss making in itself.

I bet that Northfleets Bus Garage will be pulling out in the future! They're losing Fasttrack soon and they cut so many services plus it was trying to withdraw route 477 before changing the mind.
