Arriva The Shires is splitting the lengthy route 500 (Aylesbury-Watford) at Hemel Hempstead from Sunday 30th October.
The 500 will continue to operate between Aylesbury and Hemel Hempstead Bus Station. South of Hemel Hempstead new route 508 will operate; this route will be extended beyond Watford and will continue to South Oxhey, Northwood and Mount Vernon Hospital replacing current route 8.

Sad to hear though glad I done it a while ago on an ex DLA towards Aylesbury and an ex DW coming back

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. The Aylesbury to Watford link is a long-standing one though, going back to the 1930s, and was numbered 301 under London Transport's Country Bus division and during the National Bus Company era. Green Line coaches also plied between Aylesbury and Watford until the 1980s. I suppose the new 508 saves buses running light from Hemel to Watford to operate route 8.

I’m hoping Go Coach or Ensign will be tempted to start / increase some commercial work in North Kent. The demand is there. The local population is booming but the infrastructure isn’t there. Meanwhile Arriva have pulled out of Darenth & the Fleet Estate (423), left Watling Street unserved (477) , not reinstated the 30m service on the 414, reduced the service on Both fast track routes … it’s not a pretty picture at all. Yet the area is effectively a proper London suburb. Lucky to have the 96/428/492 though.

Equally I’m not sure I see Go-Coach expanding a great deal either. I think Dartford/Gravesend are stuck as majority Arriva unless they decide to sell the operation.

I doubt Ensignbus would want to run services in Kent, due to the frequent issues with the Dartford Crossings - they risk having drivers and vehicles stranded on the Kent side.

I could definitely see Go Coach running the 414, 423 and 477 in a few years. No way do they have the amount of vehicles and drivers to cover the Fastrack services though, let alone the Arriva services around Gravesend.

Ensign took over Thurrock's routes when Arriva pulled out some many years ago now around 2007 firstly with their "Town & Country" company which had a few routes already and then full Ensignbus from about 2008 , also the x80 used to run to Valley Drive and started I believe as a route to make revenue and liven up buses NIS running to the Rail Replacement contract they had for the Strood Tunnel engineering works which saw it closed for a year or two I believe and they also took on a lot of work in Brentwood few years back when Last pulled out of the area with some routes but then handed the routes over to NIBs before the pandemic . As much as it would be amazing for them to take over in Kent seems a bit far with the issues with Dartford nowadays I think it's most definitely Go Coach territory or even The London Bus Company could make a comeback Blue Triangle Part 2 😉 (Wishful Thinking) But overall seems like DB are underfunding Arriva a lot of the buses in London anyway have lots of faults i.e blinds not working for weeks/months and filthy , the websites for out of London are a nightmare to use and they just generally seem uninterested.

The buses in London under Arriva aren’t that bad, not sure about outside London but in London, they are no worse than other operators

Especially with a further tightened budget. Far too many buses at many garages with downtime remaining unfit for certain parts and buses being run to the ground with faulty parts that are not lasting and should be changed. A lot of buses keep breaching there budget spend, especially being made to work longer, to cover other unfit ones; its a vicious circle.
