Already been discussed in the Metroline/Sullivans/Uno/General Enquiries threads I think it’s ok to share these articles here, but I see your username is moderator coloured, so will go by your better judgment.

I didn't mean that, but was simply mentioning to the OP and others who may look at this that there were other discussions on this topic - actually myself I think this deserves its own thread. Also I'm not really a moderator (as in I only can move/lock threads on the fantasy board, and can't see reported posts), I actually think I might change my username back to blue as it is quite confusing.

It does deserve its own thread rather than being spread across multiple threads. I was in Potters Bar yesterday and saw a few 84s, a little surprised to see a double deck TE as well the usual single deckers. The buses I saw had about 15-20 passengers, probably not enough for profitability but enough that the service deserves to remain.
I am glad Sullivan are going to take up the Herts section of the route, I hope TfL will do something similar for the London section. It's a shame Herts and TfL can't get together and keep the route going as is, so through journeys can be made between London and Herts.

There is meant to be 4 TE's allocated to the Hertfordshire routes 84 & 242 IIRC, certainly 5 are still active as I want to ride one on the 84 before it morphs into Sullivans version and I'll then ride that one at a later date

I don't think TFL will put a replacement for the New Barnet- Potters Bar section. They'll just use the hopper fare excuse or advise passengers to take the train instead

Yes it would be so much easier to follow if the 84 change could be kept in it's own dedicated thread instead of the usual mess on here with the same discussion going on in different threads. If Sullivans aren't willing to cover the Potters Bar to Barnet section then why should TfL? On the other hand it does add insult to injury seeing numerous empty buses running to and from PB. Could TfL not work something out with Metroline to run some of these garage journeys in service? Then again there seems to be a question mark over the long term future of PB.

Replying on topic before I get accused of trolling! I appreciate you would like things like garage journey and extra long routes or every other bus extend to certain locations but those days are long gone. As for garage journeys to replace the 84 they would be very erratic and not very frequent so not much of a help unless most passengers used the 84 at the start and end of the day.

I suspect we’ll only see a Barnet - Potters Bar service if Hertfordshire is willing to contribute significantly to the cost. Possibly even 100%. If I were to guess, I don’t think HCC and TfL will come to an agreement, so that section of 84 will be lost.

It’ll be a case of TfL arguing that HCC should contribute because it will be mostly benefiting their residents but HCC will argue the reverse saying it will benefit the tube connections etc.
