Surprised no one has mentioned Crystal Palace, the bus border than links SE and SW London together, considering it’s not a major town centre like Woolwich, Lewisham or Bromley.
With one change at Crystal Palace bus station one can traverse from Morden to Bromley, Blackheath to Clapham , Woolwich to Balham or Streatham to Orpington,
Four night buses aren’t something to be sniffed at either

I think Putney is amazingly linked, and importantly quickly linked. Richmond and Tooting for example have a bus link but it is useless when nobody is willing to sit on a 493 for well over an hour.
Putney has Wandsworth, Clapham Junction, Barnes, Roehampton, Richmond, Kingston, Wimbledon, Morden, Tooting, Hyde Park, Kensington, Chelsea, Hammersmith, White City and areas surrounding those in less than an hour by bus. And at night the 14, 37, 85, 93, 220, N22, N33, N72 and N74 provide a large coverage of areas.

East London is kinda unusual, cause you have Stratford which bus stn struggles then you have 2 other terminals not suffering spec. International bus stn,
Then you got Canning Town but all buses do a tour de Newham except a few which go east. And only 115 goes nearest to central which is the only daytime bus to do so in Canning Town.
Then Ilford in which most buses going East goes almost the same place.
Then Romford is like its own city isolated from the others.

Chingford is a small, partially isolated area and with its very few services manages to reach out to Potters Bar (Hertfordshire), Debden (Essex), Stratford (Newham), Ilford (Redbridge), Turnpike Lane (Haringey) with limited overlapping of routes.

Bromley is held back by not having links to further on than Lewisham to Greenwich, further than Eltham to Woolwich and further than Crystal Palace to Streatham.

Bromley is held back by not having links to further on than Lewisham to Greenwich, further than Eltham to Woolwich and further than Crystal Palace to Streatham. Bromley is very constricted in its bus links, yet neighbouring Croydon has very expansive links to Zone 2, and Bexleyheath has links to both Lewisham & North Greenwich

It’s pretty expansive indeed

For relatively smaller 'outer' places, then Edgware & Mill Hill have very reasonably satisfactory links with a direct bus to Oxford Street, Holland Park and White City, Wood Green, Harrow, Watford, Barnet, Brent X, Golders Green, Wembley and more besides. It's not perfect but that is a very good selection of links.

Golders Green is good, with links to Victoria, Waterloo, Chelsea, Shepherd's Bush, Wembley, Harrow, Edmonton and Finsbury Park for example.
