A random one but thought I would post just in case anyone could answer or has had experiences with appeals for penalty charge notices.
A few weeks ago I was in Redbridge Lane East at the junction by the station were the awful mini roundabout is and the exit to the station. I was waiting for a space the clear in front of the box junction and was just about to go when a car pulled out of the station and took my space meaning I was stuck in the box junction. I know in the eyes of the law I would be seen as in the wrong but this seems unfair.
Do you think its even worth trying to argue my case? So annoying only my second penalty charge in 19 years driving and both are from Redbrige council.

No point in complaining, just fighting a money grabbing process that sends standard replies in their choice of timescale, just pay quickly whilst discount applies. Had a similar one in Kingston few years back, someone dived into my lane and took the space I was moving to causing me to stop in the box. Unfortunately only sent me static photos not a video which would have showed exit from box was clear when I entered it. The process only wants your cash, not to prosecute the person driving badly in front of you, as they aren’t interested in road safety.

That is the thing I hate about yellow box junctions, at times it does not see the true picture, especially if someone cuts you up. I would ask to see the video evidence, they usually send a link IIRC. Then that could be challenged. This has caught a lot of bus drivers out, due to this. I remember one day on the A406 when they were widening the stretch at Palmers Green around 2011, the traffic was crazy. Buses on the 34 towards Walthamstow coming from Arnos Grove could not get pass because the other side would almost always be clear when it was on the opposite phase. One driver made a stand one day and refused to move his bus, unless he got a police escort or the road was clear; he waited 1 hour and 30 mins to get on the other side. He faced abuse from others on the road swearing at him for not moving off etc. The only way he was going to get across was with going through red light phase or blocking the box junction on his own phase. He had do this because he got a ticket, after that incident; they quickly doubled down on the fines from that junction until the roadworks had finished.

Yellow box junctions has to be one of the biggest offside traps there is. If you're into football you'll understand what I meant by that.

I don't drive so you all can tell me to get lost but isn't the gripe you guys have with the camera operators and/or the cameras themselves rather than the boxes because the whole point of the boxes as I understand is to keep a junction clear.

It is but then you have drivers who deliberately drive to a certain point to ensure you get caught in the box despite them having space up ahead to ensure you clear the box.

Lots of Box Junctions that did not have Live Cameras are starting to get them. What annoys me about Box Junctions is when traffic behind blow their horns at you to move I ignore them. I do not cross until my vehicle fully fits, camera or no camera... I’ve seen people get stuck on live box junction because they are always in a rush. When I used to do the 160 the most annoying Box Junction was the one on Green Lane at Fiveways.

I successfully appealed one that I got in my car a few years ago outside Goldsmith College in New Cross, the usual scenario of someone else nipping into the gap and leaving me partly in the yellow box.
A still photo shouldn't be considered sufficient evidence, this is really just a money making scam that relys on most people paying up without argument, even the emergency services aren't exempt from them.

I would argue it, not your fault. In addition there is no need for a Box Junction there in my opinion. Needs a keep clear box. Bexley Council introduced a number of Box Junctions last year in locations that previously had keep clear boxes.

Yes they are very selfish and nasty drivers... however it will come back and bite them As I said above I do not cross until the space is fully there because of selfish people like that. In addition people that use the wrong lane to cross a Box Junction should be penalised to. In addition when doing the 160 in the past Verdant Lane turning right into St Mildreds Road the amount of near misses I have seen there because people use the Ahead only Lane to turn right, I have blocked so much traffic from doing that in the past by going up as far as possible so when they try to undertake they are stuck because there is nowhere to go.

Yellow box junctions has to be one of the biggest offside traps there is. If you're into football you'll understand what I meant by that. My girlfriend quite recently told me to avoid the main junction at Camberwell Green in the southbound direction. She said if one crosses it from Camberwell Road ahead into Demark Hill the traffic lights 'immediately' after the junction box tend to turn red whilst the lights prior to it are still green, forcing some traffic to stop on the yellow box junction. Whether those light sequence are out of phase she did not know but I do know that many junctions do have lights that annoying turn red as you're exiting a junction, usually with turning traffic like the set at the A23 with the South Circular. If it's deliberate it's bang on entrapment as some vehicles without warning get stuck between a rock and a hard place (wait on the junction box or jump the red light).

I know what you mean about Camberwell Green southbound, it's also a bit of a bottle neck once you've crossed the junction and traffic can quickly come to a halt and catch someone in the yellow box. I don't think the lights are out of sequence at all it's just the road layout.

They are nothing but a money making scam imo. Seems like all the local councils are jumping on them like standard cctv or parking enforcement cars. Labour councils seem the worst for this. You also find councils like Waltham Forest has dozens of these cctv cars coupled with traffic wardens and lamp post mounted cctv. These things used to be enforced by the police back in the 80's and early 90's. Sadly the days of common sense has long gone and councils that blow money foolishly on vanity projects and over inflated salaries and pensions for leaders look at more ways to gain back money from joe mug.

All part of Will Norman's plan to eradicate the motor vehicles from the roads. The guy is the biggest liability in the UK right now, and is paid by tax payers to cause this chaos
