Thank you, missed that and it was only March this year .. probably focused more on what was happening in local politics at the time, what with local elections and the fact that was Croydon Council. Croydon Council were (maybe still are) the local government equivalent of the current national government. But still do not think it would be a good call for the Tory party if Boris were to call a GE, so still can't see it. I think BoJo is on his way out but personally don’t think he will call an election now (it would be a disaster for the tories at the moment). But suspect BoJo doesn’t care about niceties at this stage, more his desire to cling onto power, party be d*mned It's already a disaster so given he will be ousted anyway, he may as well take the big risk and call one because he has no other cards now. There are still a surprising amount of people who would vote Tory with him still in charge (personally, those people with that view need their head testing but my view doesn't matter) so it's not a given even though the polls are in the favour of a hung Labour/Lib Dem government

Seem to be at 21 resignations, with 3 Parliamentary private secretaries resigning since PMQs The 1922 committee is meeting at 5pm, but now seems there will also be an earlier meeting at 4pm where others may try and push Boris out. There is also a group like Michael Gove who don’t appear to have declared loyalty to the PrimeMinister, so might be planning something. Interesting afternoon coming up Can we change the thread title to 'Government's Breaking news? Can't see him lasting much longer but I see a messy end to proceedings, like how it went for Gordon Brown. Apparently some sort of announcement around 8pm (hopefully not another Lockdown, I wouldn't put it past him ) news.sky.com/story/boris-johnson-live-updates-pm-fighting-for-political-life-after-sunak-and-javid-quit-1259336028 resignations in under a day has to be a record, right? They're being kind to the environment and not overwhelming the printer by resigning in groups of five

At the very least by the party conference with Raab as acting PM until that point. That would give a new leader two years to reset. Of course if Starmer is fined and goes as well, as he promised, it could be on for both major parties to select leaders.

It appears that Johnson is doubling down and refusing to go. It’s all going to end very messily. He’s not an idiot - he knows he’s lost the confidence of his party and remaining in position is a ridiculous stance to take. He needs to leave now or risk being dragged kicking and screaming from office

I don't know who is going to do any better though and the opposition leaders job is still hanging by a thread depending on what action Durham police take.

BBC say that even Priti Patel has told him to go, and Boris is refusing. 40 ministers quitting in one day smashes previous 1932 record of 11, so Boris has achieved something notable today

I honestly think Boris has lost the plot and have no idea how this will end. He is acting that a a toddler refusing to put his toys away.

The difference is that Keir said he would resign if the cops fined him, whereas in contrast Boris has refused despite a fine, a lengthy inquiry and report over the matter. I think Durham Police would have done something about this now if it was so serious. Bojo was looking as tired as the buses on the 268, long before covid. Rich food and sedentary lifestyle won't help. He may have a run from time to time, but I doubt it's helped much. I am still baffled how a man of his build and in that unfortunate age group where so many men have succumbed to Covid, he fought it off with no assistance from a ventilator but yet allegedly almost "took one for the team"? Some things do not add up. I think Boris has gotten by with a dash of make believe everywhere he goes. It's becoming a farce, people resigning faster than he can replace them, we are up to 39 now... Queen may order dissolution of Parliament as her government has shown to be unstable. That's the real person in charge of things (even as a constitutional figurehead)... he lied to her too and had to apologise last year. We are in unchartered waters with this one

Boris has just sacked Michael Gove You can't have "Government" without Gove echoes of Putin purging comrades who may be about to throw him under the LT bus who will Level Up now? Boris puts the "unstable" in Dunstable, don't he? the whole thing is becoming like a badly written comedy that you'd find on BBC Three Boris needs to be placed on Special Measures like the Met Police. I think he will sack all those that oppose him. Priti, Kwasi Kwarteng, Grant Shapps etc will be shown the door. What of Great British Railways now, and the big national spend on electric buses? I think things will end like a episode of Police Interceptors when they put the door in and taser the joyrider whose now hiding in the loft

We are in unchartered waters with this one Keir has put himself in a position where he has no choice but to resign if he gets a fine, although it's little more than a parking ticket, unless he goes for one last throw of the dice and contests the matter in court.
