This thread will be most interesting to watch. As a side note, I am standing for election to Parliament as a Labour candidate in the East Surrey constituency - not quite London but still with several red TfL bus routes! I will wish you all the best with that. It has until now been very much a Conservative safe seat - but this year you could well take it for Labour. Anything is possible but I'd still say Surrey seats are more at risk to the Liberal Democrats then Labour.

Jeremy Corbyn has confirmed that he will contest Islington North as an independent candidate. He has held the seat for over 40 years as a Labour MP, but was expelled from the party following remarks made after the Equalities Watchdog report into antisemitism in the party. The journalist Paul Mason and the transport writer Christian Wolmar both expressed interest in standing as the Labour candidate, but have not been selected. The shortlist is two local Islington councillors (the best response to their names is "who?"). www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/may/24/jeremy-corbyn-to-stand-as-independent-at-general-election-islington-north

Lots of rumours on line about Rishi Sunak possibly standing down tomorrow! He is taking a day off from the campaign.

Well, I’ve decided how to vote long ago, so I think I’ll leave people to it on this thread. Have fun (if ‘fun’ is the right word 😂) I also know how I will be voting, I will vote Lib Dem. It may not be what people expect, but it makes sense for me in my constituency. I don't care what people vote, but I do want people to vote, and to do so from an informed perspective. It does make sense in plenty of constituencies, including many in Devon outside of Exeter and Plymouth. If my constituency were Cheadle or Hazel Grove, I would probably have done likewise.

I cannot wait to see the back of the Tories however stuck between the Greens (despite main policies) or the Workers Party to vote for. Surely the Greens, for environmental priorities and being so much more pleasant than George Galloway et al.

Although I wish you luck as a fellow transport enthusiast, I have elsewhere touted Claire Coutinho as a future Tory leader.

Anything is possible but I'd still say Surrey seats are more at risk to the Liberal Democrats then Labour. After a poll putting the LibDems just 1 point behind the Tories in Surrey Heath, Michael Gove has decided to run away. More polls have put Jeremy Hunt down to lose his intended Ash & Godalming seat.

Lots of rumours on line about Rishi Sunak possibly standing down tomorrow! He is taking a day off from the campaign. Think it is more likely a change of tactic as opposed to him standing down, if he stands down nobody knows who will replace him and with what ideology. You could very well end up with someone even worse like Kemi Badenoch who would just alienate voters even further. It makes sense to effectively take Sunak down with the election then completely rebuild with whoever is left and then work your way from there. It's effectively what Labour have done since the last election. His PR team do need to pull their socks up though.

Although the environment isn't the only factor here, some of their policies are honestly concerning.

In three days... 1) Rishi Sunak is sent to out to make announcement in pouring rain without an umbrella in scenes that appear to take on their own symbolism 2) At a distribution centre in Derbyshire, he took a question from a member of the 'public' who apparently is a Conservative Councilor 3) In Barry, no-one thought to tell him that Wales hadn't qualified for the Euros 4) In Belfast Sunak visits 'Titanic Quarter' which invites all the obvious 'open goal' questions 5) He is allowed to be photographed a) with one of the (I'm assuming) iconic Harland & Wolff cranes rising through his head b) on a private jet framed by the 'Exit' sign Yes I understand it's about manifesto and policy but the optics of this display a level of amateurism and lack of political savvy.

That's a huge amount of work, responsibility and scrutiny, whatever the party, whatever the incumbent's majority... This website requires an update. vote.labour.org.uk/east-surreyMay be you can campaign on "Lobbying TfL and local council to extend the 439 to Godstone" ;-)
