4th July it is - the King has approved the Prime Minister's request to dissolve the current Parliament.
Just announced live on the BBC by the PM at 17.15.

Parliament has been officially dissolved and a general election will be held on Independence Day, July 4th 2024.

Time for Keir Starmer and Labour to show they are just as incompetent and inept as the current lot 🙄 This will more than likely be the end for the tories but as you say I am personally not expecting anything better from Labour. |

Parliament has been officially dissolved and a general election will be held on Independence Day, July 4th 2024. We have no Independence Day here, so entirely meaningless. ITV News' Robert Peston announced it with that caveat. I brought it up because MI5 officials warned months ago about both the US and UK having elections so close together. So instead of the UK holding elections in mid November where some states in America could potentially have recounts & delaying the election, it's held on US Independence Day where the security risk to both countries will be low. I would not be surprised if intelligence officials gave the PM a choice of 'safe dates' to choose from to hold the election. |
