No. If an operator decides to give up a commercial route another company may chose to register a replacement service. The other option is another company sets a duplicate service in competition and a bus war starts .... but imagine very few commercial services in the home counties can sustain two operators Right ok. Thanks for that To start up a new service is a financial risk. You need to invest in vehicles and staff, as well as operational costs. Initially you will be losing money ... if you take the gamble and start a successful commercial service, why should you risk having it taken off you.

OK. Can commercial routes be passed to other operators like tendered ones? No. If an operator decides to give up a commercial route another company may chose to register a replacement service, but it may not be exactly the same. The other option is another company sets a duplicate service in competition and a bus war starts .... but imagine very few commercial services in the home counties can sustain two operators
Yes. There is no authority, either national or local, that can remove commercial operator A from a route and give that route to operator B to run it on a commercial basis. Commercial routes are not franchises.
The Traffic Commissioners can - as part of their range of disciplinary sanctions against operators who do not comply with the requirements of operator / local service licensing - restrict or revoke an operator's licence, but they do not have the power to direct another operator to take on any route/s that the dubious operator previously ran. Other operator/s may choose to replace routes either partly or fullly on a commercial basis, or it may fall to the local authority / PTE to put some sort of tendered service on. (As an aside, the 'tender' process does include provisions for emergency or small scale contracts to be awarded without the need for a full scale tender exercise.)
There have however been occasions where operator A has taken over a route previously run by operator B, either through the sale of part of an existing operation (or the entire sale of one depot and its operations) or where the two operators have come to an agreement for this - this can involve a modest payment for the 'goodwill' (and possibly vehicles / bus stop infrastructure where it's maintained by operators) and an agreement that the selling operator won't compete on the route for X amount of time.

To anyone who has the Oyster App, does the in-app maps still doesn't have the Northern Line extension and the Thameslink for you? Mine has at least 2 updates and the maps still don't have them

Thankfully, I don't use the map function on it and have a tube map app instead which has the extension plus Thameslink

Does anyone have a list of routes that are currently allocated electric buses? My 7yo daughter is on an environmental kick and wants to travel on an electric bus. Her grandfather will soon be driving them out of PD but who knows when they will turn up? Just wondered if there was anything closer to us in Bromley that I could take her on. I’ve had a hunt around but can’t seem to find a comprehensive list. Thanks in advance guys

Thanks in advance guys The nearest electric route to yourself at this current moment is the 484 from memory running from Lewisham to Camberwell, the 108 from Lewisham to Stratford also having an electric allocation though only 2 vehicles rather than a full one. The 160 from Catford Bridge to Eltham is due to convert at some point in the near future once it’s electrics are ready

Couple that with the additions of the temporary 148 allocation, full P5 & C10 allocations from galwhv69 & I think that’s all of them so far The 200 runs from Mitcham to Raynes Park but did used to run to Streatham many years ago
