This may sound controversial, but Tfl should consider raising prices year on year again, even for adults. The only problem is that it may deter people from using public transport.
I only use public transport mainly for work travel now but I try to avoid it unless the weather's bad

I think even say £1.70 for a 1 hour unlimited bus trips is excellent value.

Really? £1.55 is ridiculously cheap compared to most things! Even a modest increase is going to help TfL. I see reports elsewhere how many passengers used the night tube on its first weekend and it was something like 30k passengers per line so that's running at a huge loss! I know some passengers probably stayed away because of the strike. Controversial view but I do sometimes wonder if it would be better if the government just take control of TfL I don't think they will ever get their house in order and just keep wasting billions.

I think that would be the better idea regarding TFL with TFL being an organisation in which consultations are passed and stuff like that.
I'd say an increase to about £1.70 would be adequate with children paying £0.40 or something around that.

You have seen this government? I wouldn’t trust them with running a bath let alone TfL. The fares will probably going up anyway but I don’t think that will have any positive effect on getting people back to the network which needs to be the priority.

I know the government is shocking just don't think we can keep having this begging bowl routine ever few months. I'm thinking more a London Transport type of operation.

The "begging bowl routine" has only been necessitated because each spell of rescue funding from the Government has been short-term. The current funding was only granted until 11th December. Andy Byford is saying very clearly that this situation should not continue and TfL needs a longer-term funding package so they can plan service recovery and investment for the future. Don't forget that TfL, like all other providers of scheduled public transport services, has been asked to keep service levels artificially high despite low passenger numbers to allow for social distancing.

I think if TfL came up with a more sustainable business plan, they would get more longer term funding. Problem is TfL change very little each time they go begging much to DoTs exasperation. Same crucial flaws each time. They make agreements and never stick to their side of the deal.

Completely agree, if another bailout is agreed TfL should become completely accountable for every penny it plans to spend from large infrastructure projects to new hires. I also believe that TfL should give over some responsibilities like roads and devolve some back to the councils. I would also like to see TfL set privatise the tube to a degree and have it run in a similar management style to the overground pushing staff responsibility onto private businesses and leaving TfL to simply collected revenue and do maintenance at least for the next 5-10 years. There is plenty TfL can do to make it more robust.

I only use public transport mainly for work travel now but I try to avoid it unless the weather's badThis is my over-simplified take but I think that is part of the politics at work with the whole issue - Sadiq Khan stated there would be no fare rises and the Tory Government are making the Labour controlled TfL sweat regarding funding as such............
