For those forum members resident in or near to or frequent visitors to Croydon would it be sensible for me to try to avoid the place at all costs during the current road works if I was to attempt a "round London by bus" ride on Good Friday? I'm not reading good reports on the traffic conditions in Croydon at the moment. Yes, I would avoid it - I was there yesterday and it was Gridlock on Wellesley Road thus causing the whole of the surrounding roads to be jammed with traffic. If you are going to do it, I would advise to steer clear of centre Croydon but by all means do the outskirts The tram works are causing all sorts of problems. I was there too yesterday, and the tram works are sending multiple buses on diversion and routes 403 and 154 terminating at Fairfield Halls. As ibus246 said, try and do the outskirts only and avoid central Croydon unless you want to be held up. The works should be clear though after the long weekend.

Hopefully I'm not going mad but has anybody been on an x26 recently and noticed a different person saying the x26 to... But with Emma Hignett still saying the destination? I'm sure it wasn't like that when it was the X26

It is the same voice. Additionally it used show X26 to Croydon Town Centre and was changed to X26 to West Croydon one week before Quality Line took over.

I really don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I've noticed that the N550 has silently been removed from Victoria Embankment. Why have TFL changed this? Have I missed a consultation on this matter?

Have I missed a consultation on this matter? It's meant to be a temporary diversion, albeit a long-term one. I say "meant to be" because a few of these "temporary" changes have quietly become permanent ones.

Thanks for your reply, I did initially think this, but there is absolutely nothing on Londonbusroutes.net or TFL status updates, and the countdown map has been changed for the route. Maybe TFL have already made a decision and the N550 will never return to Victoria Embankment...

This is a quesion for all bus drivers. If a driver wanted to do overtime afer their shift for their day, how would they do it? Also will be they will be allowed to work overtime(not rest days) every day after their shift, depending on the hours? Sorry if this is a stupid question!!!

I am not a driver but know about driver hours. If you do a long duty that is about 10 hrs long with a 1hr meal = 9hr working, assuming stand time is a further hour = 8 hrs driving it would be illegal do do more than another 2 hours driving that day. There are also restrictions on how many hours are between duties. You wouldn't be able to finish at 1300 then 8 hours later do a late straight shift.

Not a stupid question at all and I'm sure it's been asked by many new drivers during and after training. As long as you are complying with driving hours (as Shedcomp already mentioned) and there's work available you can usually do overtime if and whenever available. In my time (many moons back) the firm may even ask you if you are willing to do a bit of overtime, but not without double-checking* that you are able to do so for that day. If the driver is seeking overtime they would usually call in on the Band 3 radio (ibus) at the bus stand or ask at the front desk (when finished or during their break if that's taken at the depot). Some drivers may even ask in advance before the start of their own duty. * - they will get stung as well as you if it's proving you have broken your hours

But the thing I don't understand is about the duty numbers. E.G. If you are duty 417 for the day, but then you would like to do overtime, wouldn't that mean you would take over someone's else's duty or is there a special duty for overtime or would you still continue with your duty number? But still, thanks very much WDL1!!!

But still, thanks very much WDL1!!! Basically any overtime that is available is usually due to shortage of staff where they can't find somebody to cover one or more other duties. To use your example say you were doing duty 417 from 0500 till 1300 and duty 433 needed to be covered. Your overtime could be the first part of Duty 433 which started from 13:30 till 16:30 (three and a half hours overtime for you) whilst another driver would cover the second part of the duty from for example 17:30 til 20:00. If all duties happened to be covered (full staff present) then no overtime's available on that occasion. Another opportunity for overtime is when a depot is allocated railway replacement duties (usually weekends) where extra drivers are needed.

But still, thanks very much WDL1!!! I'm guessing it's the same for every company Every job for every day is supposed to be covered by 1 driver, the only case where there would be overtime available would be due a blow out (Driver sick/not turned up for work) or if extras are running (rare) or if there is a bus mechanical somewhere and they want you to relieve that driver so he can go home Example Say you were allocated Duty 223 1015 - 1705, at 1650 iBus put out a call asking if any drivers want to do overtime, see the counter or GS (Garage supervisor) when you finish You would complete that job (Duty 223), hand log card and duty card in, then speak to the counter staff or GS, they will tell you what's available and will work out what you will be able to cover of the duty (It is up to you to make sure you aren't exceeding driving hours) you'll most likely just have to do a rounder So for example duty 243 1724 - 0205, you won't have enough time to cover this entire job so you'll most likely just cover the 1st rounder and they will find other people to cover the rest of the job and on the system it will show that you covered duty 243.a for example while other drivers completed duty 243.b ect ect

Thanks very much!! I now understand. Just one last question. Is it very often that you do overtime 10301 or chances are very slim?
