Ex RATP Citaro MCL30306 is now with BM coaches and used on the Southern Rail Replacement between Purley and Regate via Redhill today that I get to enjoy being thrashed from Redhill to Purley after doing the 406 running day. As Transport UK took over the main contract for GTR rail replacement, BC are doing the main bulk of this Rail Replacement of doing the Purley to Horley route using E400MMC's from the 109 & 270 that are certainly enjoying the much needed break from doing those routes.
Just a quick question. I was wondering how you ID buses when their regs have changed?

VIN plates by the front are your best bet to get the ID of a bus if you can as that would have the chassis number for a specifc bus that is going to stay the same in almost all cases.
Sometimes any past clues like fleet numbers/registration inside the cab or old TfL info stickers can be used if there are any remains of their past life with another operator, which isn't the case with this Citaro as nothing was inside with any regs/fleetnumber showing when it was under RATP.

Freecarcheck.co.uk update their records every few day or so and show previously registrations and the date changed. Although S30LHR invalid on there and DVLA right now

Done T, L3 and X today. Love the randomness of Rail Replacements.
- T driver completely relying on maps and stopping in the middle of junctions deciding which way to go. Eventually missing a turn and having to go on a detour. Always happens on T service for some reason. - X driver providing a stop when you want, board when you want service. Probably stopped at 6/7 additional stops on what is already a long route. To be fair he was providing a good passenger service and being helpful. X drivers were communicating well to passengers. Happened last time I took X as well. - L3 seemed to be running the best with what seemed to be an all E400 service. - St James Street got really busy at times with 34, 212, 275, L3 (both directions) and X all coming in and out. - Only just noticed that there are 'Railway Replacement' blinds and 'Rail Replacement' blinds. Should be the latter for all going forward.

Eventually missing a turn and having to go on a detour. Always happens on T service for some The near universal reliance on maps suggests this how things are intended to be done. Route learning for rail replacement is a cost nobody really wants to be responsible for. There are inherent difficulties with training drivers on routes that only run occasionally, often with staff who are busy at other times.

There are inherent difficulties with training drivers on routes that only run occasionally, often with staff who are busy at other times. That's fine but you can have a look at it before you start off or then at every bus stop. The driver was bizarrely indecisive at the junctions. Additionally, the helpful signs on sign posts are there to help too and I was not sure the driver was aware of these. We have two weeks of L3 service now at 20 minutes which seems risky for the weekday service. I suspect the 97 will be busy in the early part of next week when the schools are still open for some schools and the line is down.

Who is running L3? It seems like Stagecoach but I have seen Arriva buses on it so not sure.

Havering Council buses are out on DLR replacement services today along with First Essex. Buses seem to have lots of running time and several were paused at stops with hazard lights on.

Would I be right in assuming Sullivan's would have covered the DLR replacement had they still been a contractor for TfL? The reason I ask is the very varied mix on the service today includes Metroline, Go Ahead SI garage (Very rare), Havering, First Essex and Ensign.
