Is the 240 likely to get VWs next week or will it keep its TEs for a while longer?

Is the 240 likely to get VWs next week or will it keep its TEs for a while longer? I doubt the 240 will get its VWs dot on the date of its next contract, as routes rarely do. I can see the VWs slowly coming in within the next couple of months, depending on which ones end up transferring.

There is quite a gap in terms between the start dates, I have a feeling the 318/B15s new contracts were probably the last allowed to use vehicles of that age.

Those TEs are probably staying at PB as has been mentioned a while ago by a recently departed trusted source. Metroline retained it with Euro V vehicles and probably won’t have renegotiated the contract to allow older vehicles to have been run. Changing buses isn’t as easy as it seems, it’s been said many times on here so many times.

If the 240 will use those then what will the 81 gain? Could the 240 and 81 use the ex First VWs or do Metroline want to get rid of the ex First VWs? The next VWs that will be available are the VWs at PA and they will be released when the 90 get it's VMHs in August 2019. But then what will the 297 gain to replace the SELs. What if the current vehicles on the 240 where retained until the right Euro 5 vehicles became available?

They are not the only VWs available - the 240 is a relatively low pvr route, and will most likely just pick up a small collection of VWs from around the fleet from PVR reductions etc, the tender spec also said 2011 buses converted to Euro VI and there isn't any 2011 diesel E400s in the fleet. Personally I can see the TEs hanging on for a bit longer (especially as TE880/884 have not long transferred back from PB to supplement the fleet) until enough VWs are available to be used on the 240.

I hope there isn't a delay in their introduction to service like the 46. The 46's delay was down to a problem with the initial location for the charging equipment so I can't see the same issue at PB arising personally. There was a second even more important issue with the electric buses on the 46 - they failed the route test, as they could not get around the island at Warwick Avenue. The offending island had to be re-modelled, and as soon as that was completed and a successful route test undertaken, the electric buses started to go into service on the 46.
Hopefully there will be no such repetition on either the 43 or 134, but no doubt the new electric buses will be subject to a route test.

I hope the 240's TEs do hang on for a bit longer, this may just be me but is seems weird having VWs at EW which until recently was dominated by TEs. Nevertheless, there'll still be some TEs on the 107 and hopefully some TE strays onto the 292

I don't understand how there were these long standing "issues" in regards to length of buses on route 4 and 271 but now all of a sudden there are no issues or whatever. As now VMH2572 and 2585 were both standing together at H.V and now the once "too long" VWHs can go on the 4. If the 271 can now take B5LHs, I would expect the route to be allocated the intended 15reg VWHs rather than the 60reg TEHs (once released from the 43) - also reduces the number of types at HT. The 60reg TEHs could perhaps return to EW - could be suitable for the 240? Furthermore, I reckon once route 34 is lost, the VWHs could move to HT, displacing TEHs and/or VMHs, thereby reducing the variety at HT.

I think the VWHs will move to AC as the 52s tender award said 2014 hybrids - the only free 2014 hybrids will be the 34s.

Seems like Metroline are going to use the Westbus base in Lampton Road for the 81 Wonder why they haven’t used AH which will have space once the 209 leaves ? Also wonder why they didn’t put the 222 into UX after the 607 transferred out ? Good news for any RATP drivers transferring with the route. I think route 81 joins Metroline in July but route 209 does not leave until August. Maybe SG will be temporary for route 81?
