Passed through Norbiton today and it appears the brick station building on the Kingston bound platform was being demolished. Roof had gone and some of the brick walls were partly knocked down. Half the main station building was behind plywood hoardings as well.

South West trains have announced they are getting an extra 108 carriages
60 will be the Gatwick Express Junipers (4 of the luggage vans will be scrapped) and the other 60 will be converted and formed with the class 458 sets to create 5 car units. Seems the rebuild will be extensive and they are getting desiro style ends with gangways. These will be seated 2+2 as per the refurbished 455 units.
The other 48 will be the 2-car class 456 units (currently on Southern), and they will be refurbished like the class 455 red units. (Southern is getting 100+ new carriages, unlike SWT that is taking 25 year old hand me downs)
Most of the SWT suburban network will get 10 car trains (platform lengthening is nearly finished on Hounslow, Richmond, Windsor lines and the other suburban lines follow in 2013-2014 (currently limited to 8 car trains)
Once these are in service the desiros that were converted to HC (High capacity) will have their first class restored and the seats replaced (the ones near the doors that were removed to increase standing room) so that they are standard with remaining blue desiros, and a few 8 car trains on Basingstoke/Alton lines will get lengthened to 12-car.

Interesting that the class 456's are now officially going to SWT, as it has been reported on Wikipedia etc for quite some time now that it was imminent. I'm quite surprised they haven't gone sooner, especially with the 3-car class 377's coming in on the Southern suburban network late last year. Is there any indication when they will go to SWT?

hi guy to save on forum space im going to post this here Workers at one of the country's biggest train companies are to take industrial action during the Olympics in a row over a Games bonus payment. Up to 1,000 members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union at South West Trains will work to rule, including a ban on overtime, from Friday, the day of the opening ceremony, to August 12, the last day of the Games. Union members at the firm, which runs services across the South East into London Waterloo, rejected going on strike but voted for other forms of action. full info here www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/9832154.Rail_staff_work_to_rule_during_Olympics/

Hi, have just heard that the first 5 car 458 is delayed again. Was originally due by end March, amended to by end May. Now seems won't be ready until June and unlikely to be enter service until late July or August. I understand the livery will be blue like the 450s

Hope to see them on the Shepperton Line soon! Although they'll likely put 456s on that line!
