Surely we are moving towards GAL having to give up the 200 due to not being able to run the route with compliant vehicles? I don't think they have to give up the route, it's been reported here that the Me's were seen somewhere around the routing of the 200. I believe they will very much return and continue operating on the route until the route is up for tender again.

They seem to have given up even attempting to allocate the odd spare double decker most days. This must be one of the longest periods of buses being off the road. I am starting to wonder if the Me’s are going to return.

Saw 2 of them parked up in the little side yard at AL when I was on a 131 today, so guessing they're on the way back. Might go for a walk around Waterside Way area tomorrow when I'm on lunch break and see if there's anything to note because IIRC they were being stored at PL

TfL generally allow fleet flexibilities for various situations beyond the operator's control, in this case faulty vehicle batch that are still under warranty thus likely handled by Optare. The factor on the 200 having single decks i reckon is partially in relation to the route having smaller buses for years up to its last contract, thus proving it can handle it again for the time being given fleet surplus of the type.

This has been dragging on a bit now, is there any urgency to get the matter resolved? I can't help wondering if TfL were imposing sanctions on GAL and they were passing the bill onto Optare/Switch if it would have been resolved by now?

It was rather unfortunate that it happened at a time when Go Ahead have no spare DDs sat around. It hasn't helped aswell that the 157s electric conversion has taken so long as when that does convert the 200 should be able to use the WVLs.
