Has there been any progress with regards to the 358. That side of the business has been fairly quiet recently.

Not sure as I know it has them on the SEe's on the 163/164 but not the DDs so it may be allowed on SDs still. I don’t think it stretched to the SDs and only affected the DDs. It applies to all buses for TfL.

Edit: I’ve just watched half a dozen videos of new SEe, including the ones just introduced onto the 396 and they still have the middle seat at the rear. The BZL and Kite SDs at Stagecoach and Abellio don’t have the middle seat but the SEe still do.

I agree about the B16 and the 244 isn't suitable for double deckers although it may deserve a frequency increase. I think there is one tree on the Shooters Hill section which would have to be cut back. Deckers used to run on this section. The original proposal for the route after the Elizabeth line was to have them. Also trees at Broadwaters and the 244 carries a lot of short distance passengers who probably wouldn't go upstairs on a double decker anyway.

The ever excellent London Bus Routes has shown 358 conversion to EV as a creeping delay throughout and is currently showing "New Irizar ie-Tram 12m electric single deckers introduced" conversion as " Aug 2024?" so clearly according to this source date not firmed-up. www.londonbusroutes.net/changes.htm

If the Irizar buses are problematic, couldn't GAL switch to the GB kite?The DD version runs fine on the 111 (which is similar route length to the 358) and the pantographs would no longer be needed

The pantograph at Orpington is on land owned by Network Rail and concerns have been expressed about whether it will interfere with railway equipment. Opportunity charging will still be needed for some routes.

The buses themselves are not problematic, it is just they are more environmentally friendly having smaller batteries that rely on being charged up between journeys.

It is a measure to improve passenger safety so it beats me why it attracts such hostility. Whatever incident(s) that led to this design feature does not merit the removal of the seat. I have never had or seen any safety related fears due to the seat or did it ever cross my mind that there was an issue. You might as well convert all DDs to SDs to prevent injury/death due to stairs. Not anymore with upgraded Electroliner, new E400ev integral and BD11, only factor which was preventing after range issue was quickly dismissed is that deterioration of battery over time, something the BYD blade battery the BD11 use now provides a fix for. I dont know what options are there for long single decker routes though, Kite may be able to have upgraded battery like recent electroliners
