But they do, operators care about performance and efficiency, not about looks. Precisely! Roll up to a normal, non enthusiast passenger at a bus stop with this and they’ll just think “oh cool the 321 has turned up” they’ll maybe comment on the interior but that’s all. Operators as you said will have chosen the product based more on the mechanics, range and price. GAL for example may have chosen this as mechanically it’s similar to the Ee’s (updated tech of course, but non the less still the same) and so may make sense for them to go in that direction whilst also considering that in bulk they’re selling for a decent price. Everything there is going to take priority over design. There are some not so nice looking cars out there that people have bought souly down to the mechanical economics. These days it’s main about performance, design is just a luxury addition. End of the day a bus is a bus. No matter what we think they look like it is interesting to see that the EU has voted for an upto 37.6% tariff on electric vehicles from China. Only read the headline grabbing facts so far, so unsure whether this is just cars or all types of vehicles as headlines have used the words interchangeably. Will the UK follow the EUs lead?

A bus is a bus is a bus is a bus blah blah blah. Better for a bus to turn up ugly than none at all. Totally agree, never thought of anything different.
All I said was the BD11 is an absolute horror show of a bus to look at, it wouldn't stop me getting on it. You'd have to be an absolute fool to take it that far.

I agree, most of us are literally just saying it’s ugly and that’s it. Nobody is saying that they will avoid it (apart from Yunus maybe ), nor should anybody be claiming that passengers care about how ugly a bus is because they are unlikely to.

For the 75 BD11s confirmed for Go Ahead for routes 101, 321, 333, 473 and SL4.
How many are meant to be allocated per route?

I would go as far to say passengers don’t care if a bus is electric or not either. I know others won’t agree but this is just my personal opinion. For the majority of passengers they just want a bus that turns up on time.

I don’t know for sure but the 75 strong order matches the following if you look up each routes PVR: 101 - PVR + 1 spare 321 - PVR + 2 spares 333 - PVR + 2 spares 473 - PVR + 1 spare SL4 - PVR + 2 spares

This discussion is interesting I thought my comments saying some buses look horrid or ugly was bad… The general public most of them think every bus looks the same… …totally agree except that to the great British public every half cab is a Routemaster!

If 129 got them as well it would bring the order up to about 101 which is what was speculated before

My thoughts exactly and nobody would design such an ugly looking car because it wouldn't sell but as far as buses are concerned it seems anything will do. I also agree with you about the contraptions for the 358! Hmm, current Toyota anything, Tesla Cybertruck, Fiat Multipla, Chrysler PT Cruiser. Do you need more examples of companies manufacturing ugly cars that sold quite well. BMW 5GT, Mercedes R Class (I owned both 🫣) BMW are on quite an ugly run as well at the moment as well... the grilles are too big. As for the BYD, it's the very dated looking headlights that don't do it justice. I understand the slight 'overbite' so the wipers are tucked away when parked but it's not due on my side of the river.. yet yes the 358 Irizar e-trams are fugly, more like a shuttle ride in a theme park. Looks expensive to repair as well if they get any knocks
