Has there been actual confirmation that SW is being electrified? 88, 333 and 355 have been confirmed to be getting electrified so unless they somehow randomly migrated to another garage it is confirmed SW will need to be electrified

However being a Grade 2 Listed premises it will need specialised and sensitive planning that recognises and retains its special architectural features, and this will need to be signed off. This probably means it will go live later than most. I doubt it will be closed though, as the listing recognises Stockwell's significance as a purpose-designed and still-operational bus garage and there is not really any alternative use for it. It is the only Listed bus garage in London that is operational.

SW is unlikely to close for the reasons given above. However, there have been rumours (often unfounded) that some garages cannot be electrified and face closure (e.g., DT, MG). I have seen a Facebook post (from a reliable source) claiming that MG is closing and that a new site in Charlton will be replacing it. Idle rumours?

They awarded the contract for routes not necessarily from a certain garage or within a certain time frame (cough 358 cough). Not saying SW won’t go electric but nothing stopping Go Ahead moving routes around or even using the electrics on other routes with TfL approval like the plan was for a couple of Metroline routes.

I would assume Go Ahead presented an electrification plan to TfL when they bid for the routes. I don’t think TfL would award the routes as EV on blind faith alone.

MG currently has permission until 2027 and there is a planning application to extend that until 2047. I think it’s incorrect to say MG cannot be electrified but rather Go Ahead may be unwilling to invest if the lease cannot be extended beyond 2027. RATP is in the same situation with RP, the routes could have been retained with EVs but without a long term site it makes it unviable to invest in. No company would invest millions just to see it torn down a couple of years later. Sure some equipment can be moved but it get costly to remove it and reinstall it.

You really think that we will find out next week? Sadiq will continue to say he is aiming for 2030. He is clueless and refuses to accept any sense of reality. It will be left for the next mayor to face the reality and announce the finances (and probably manufacturing capacity, and maybe infrastructure requirements) do not allow it until 2034.

If the wait is too long then TfL will need to go out to tender again for new trains.
