Not saying this was related but the number of buses I caught yesterday with the heaters on were crazy. At least three. On not a hot day but this does not help keeping passengers cool and the bus cool too. While I am ranting: Walthamstow Central bus station has installed long term temporary lights at the crossing at the back exit towards the market. Not sure the reason but likely health & safety. I dont really care either way but: 1) Some pointless poles have been put up and some markings on the road to get buses to single file which has led to a bus stand being removed. There may be some increase somewhere to compensate that I have not spotted yet but either way it is so pointless at a time where buses are standing outside of the station because of capacity issues. 2) The temp lights ruin the station look as there are wires going all across the station. We had the scaffolding for a bit now this eyesore. Additionally, they have volunteers there telling people to cross when it is the green man. We know how these work plus we know nobody is going to pay attention and they will cross as before because it is a short crossing and we can see if a bus is coming. Dont think there will be any benefit. Some minor rants: - 5, 128 are currently diverted in one direction at Becontree Heath missing a couple stops because no-one has bothered to remove the cones as the works are finished. In fact, dont know why there were closures as it could have been reduced to one lane. Probably health and safety again. But it's really no-one cares. - Palmerston Road in Walthamstow is closed for a few weeks and no changes seem to have been made to traffic lights timings in effected areas, particularly Blackhorse Road. Again no-one seems to think about these things or cares. It is almost like them saying 'expect delays of up to 1 hour' covers the need to try and help the situation. I believe the ATS was installed at Walthamstow Central due to a women getting ran over there end of last year by a 212 walthamforestecho.co.uk/2023/12/16/woman-in-her-70s-dies-after-being-struck-by-bus-at-walthamstow-bus-station/Thought it would be H&S and a reaction to an incident but not aware of what it was. Thanks for sharing. They obviously thought this was the solution but not sure it will help particularly with the current part-time arrangements and the haste at which people are in a rush to get to the train station.

I don't think it will do much either, other then back up the buses inside the station more then they already do get at times. The big issue is pedestrians walking from Stop D to the market using the road rather then the actual path inside the station, very easy for people to fall into a blind spot there especially when turning which I believe is what happened to that poor lady. Not sure how they can really go about fixing the problem other then shutting the north exit entirely and make people use the west exit

He 100% said 45 minutes, the guy in front of me exclaimed in shock “45 minutes, you must be joking. In that time another 2-3 will go past and you’ll be sitting here. What about people that have to get to Heathrow?” To which the driver responded “There is nothing I can do, I’m being told to wait 45 minutes”. Thats very strange, I don't think I've ever came across a scenario where I've thought to myself holding a bus mid route for 45 mins would be a good solution to any problem. Generally speaking even if its at an end point you're holding the bus anything more then 25 mins TFL wont accept it if it resulted in lost mileage. The only thing that comes to mind is an allegation was made against the driver (along the lines of drink/drug driving) and the controller needed to make sure that bus is stopped to allow someone to attend. If a bus is being held for 45 mins that would naturally imply there would be a near 90 mins gap in service behind at which point the best course of action would be to do nothing and have a reduced service between the two buses The driver said he was told to wait 45 minutes as at least one bus had broken down behind. There really isn’t much more to it than that.

7 min? I once had a 259 being asked to wait for 9 min when the bus is every 7 min (this was back in Jan 2019 before schools reopened so our bus was running very early !!) You are off by 38 minutes. No typo, he was asked to wait 45 minutes because the vehicle behind broke down. The SL7 has really gone from being one of the best services to one of the worst. Completely disintegrated since it went every 15 minutes. I hope Go Ahead retain it but it needs a rethink. On the senario that the bus actually waited that long I can imagine luggage-hauling punters further along the route waiting for that bus in reliance of what the countdown system's showing, not knowing they'll have up to a forty-five minute wait.

This must be some record but 274 is not on diversion but has three consecutive bus stops closed (around Agar Grove/York Way). Not sure how this has been allowed to happen.

I remember when the cycle superhighway works were happening every single bus stop on Whitechapel Road was closed. Was on the 205 and the driver announced at St Botolph Street the next 5 bus stops were closed and I dont think he called next until Booth Memorial. As for distance, Robert Street which is almost definitely closed due to roadworks, and Mornington Crescent Station stop too means the 24/27/29 dont stop anywhere between Warren Street amd Camden High Street. Thats about a 10-15 minute walk

Copying this here from the Stagecoach thread.
Does anyone know what work is taking place at Walthamstow Bus Station? The 257 is cut back until August and there is / or was a night closure planned.
——
WALTHAMSTOW BUS STATION: Route 257 is curtailed until 20:00 each day until the end of August. Buses are starting and terminating at Leyton Green until 20:00 daily - use other routes between Bakers Arms and Walthamstow.

Buses are starting and terminating at Leyton Green until 20:00 daily - use other routes between Bakers Arms and Walthamstow. Based on earlier post in this thread it seems just more health and safety works. I will see if I can find specific details. The temporary lights installed at the north exit crossing will likely be made permanent at some point. Stand space has been removed and 69s are standing where the 257s usually stand. Therefore there is no stand space for 257 during the day. Also to note that in the past weeks the station staff have stepped up the monitoring of stand in the station. 34s are getting kicked out regularly and signs have been put up for certain routes to prevent others parking. If no additional stand space is created, then I suspect that in August one of the 58/W11 will stand and terminate at the stop outside the station. Currently, that stop on Selborne Road is closed but the works near the two twin towers seems to be ending and suspect that the stop (and bus lane) will be available and made into a stand. End of August also coincides with the start of September and changes to route W12. Therefore, ideal time for updates of maps and it will be about 5 mins since they last changed stop arrangements and maybe they will also move buses around.

I always hated it as people always run across it and coming around the corner it can be a blind spot at times.

Well that's all the supposed consultations meant to be coming out stopped at a red light. Alongside certain tender results.

Agreed although I’m expecting the next tender result to be announced before 30th May 2024. On a separate note, I am guessing the official Purdah period for the 2024 General Election starts on 31st May 2024 or has it started now?

It should start the 31st as parliament is dissolved on the 30th and that kicks off 25 working days until the election.

Parliament dissolution takes place on the 30th of May, so yes after that will be Purdah. There's another week but I imagine it'll be used to effectively prepare for Purdah as opposed to a rush out of brand new policies.
