Diamond Geezer's post today is about the absolutely rubbish new timetable journey time estimates where he did a little experiment with the 123 and SL2 here - diamondgeezer.blogspot.com/2024/08/bus-timetables-are-rubbish.htmlI recently noticed some of these new timetables claiming that the 44 and N44 take the same amount of time to get from Tooting to Victoria

This is what is leading to the regulation in Ilford/Barking. Similar to SL10 and 183 being similar between Hendon and Harrow.

Having one of my nostalgic thoughts I often thought it a pity the B7TL's fan noise issue wasn't resolved with electric fans from the start so that successor B9TLs could've been ordered earlier by London operators. Perhaps then firms like Travel London (now TUK) may've had more Volvos from 9074 upwards...which by coincidence would've had the same last numbers as Go Ahead's first B9TL that is WVL274.
We may also have seen B9TLs new to Arriva London, perhaps then including the Enviro400 body option like with Go Ahead's VE1-3

Battersea Power Station absolutely heaving today. Good to see (and surprising in fact considering the demographics) that the buses seem to get a decent usage just like the tube. Lots of people doing the short hop from Vauxhall. When I was heading out to lunch at BPS from there two bunched 344s were carrying decent loads to BPS. Quite a few foreign tourists too (though it seemed like the majority of visitors were still Londoners), seems to be picking up in prominence as somewhere to visit.
@tfl, would be nice if you could install Countdown displays at BPS Station and Vauxhall Bus Stations (and in fact a lot of bus stations in general lack Countdowns)!

It’s been heaving regularly for a long time now, aside from heavy use of the 156 and 344 I have seen 344s get Brixton-109’d at Vauxhall where the bus can’t even leave because so many people keep running up just as the bus finishes loading.

TBH, I’d like TfL to prioritise giving stops, that had a countdown screen in their old shelter before it was replaced with a new that doesn’t have a countdown screen, their displays back.

Very random but don’t want to start a new thread so posting here.
Do any members subscribe to Buses Magazine? I haven’t this months issue which is very unusual. It normally arrives on the Saturday before going on sale (Third Thursday of month).

I pay less than £15 a quarter as I think I am on a old deal that keeps rolling.

I don't subscribe anymore but I often buy a copy from WHS although I'm not sure if I'll do so for much longer, a lot of magazines on various subjects are almost obsolete now with the information being readily available online.

Same happened to my 344 (well I was also guilty of running for it to replenish the queue ). Hope the plans to demolish the bus station never goes ahead, it really is just such a simple an effective layout for changing buses at the moment.

Watching some of the nostalgic videos on YouTube really made me realise that I was so glad to experience some routes back in it's heyday. Some of my cousins were so shocked when they found out that the 15 used to go to Paddington/Ladbroke Grove from East Ham, 25 going to Victoria, 5 going to Old Street, 12 going to Notting Hill.
Whilst some of the cuts over the years were debatable I do feel as though somewhere deep in the future we could possibly see some routes that were shortened being extended to make it longer. It does feel as though things happen in seasons and it does a whole 360.
I am happy that there has been some restoration in some sort with some links over the years I.e the Elephant and Castle to Lewisham daytime link brought back in 2014 was lost in 1999 and the Gants Hill to Barking link along with the Walthamstow to North Woolwich link which has been restored.

Nowadays, it's not particularly feasible along many routes to stick sizeable extensions on them because of congestion and a lack of car reduction policy that actually does it's job effectively. It's why most extensions we see are of the short variety and one of those restored links you mention was only feasible via a new express bus rather than a return to Barking for the 179.

Perhaps but in a way they inadvertently undid a move that was lost prior, whether this was intentional or by a stroke of luck remains to be seen. But with cycle lanes and 20mphs all over the gaff does slow a lot of bus journeys down. If they did reverse those 20mphs then there may be a chance for possible longer journeys to return but one can only dream ay.

A bus has crashed into a theatre in London’s West End. Pictures from the scene show damage to the side of the Palace Theatre, which is home to famous shows like Harry Potter, the Cursed Child. It is not yet known whether the theatre has been evacuated but police confirmed no one has been injured metro.co.uk/2024/08/19/bus-crashes-theatre-londons-west-end-21448777/
