So our Mercs have an auto kneel feature so the bus lowers automatically when you open the doors depending on what bus I’m driving depends if I leave the feature on or turn it off as some of them are really slow to raise back up and the brake won’t release until they are happy that they are raised which can be anything up to around 30 seconds, anyway today I had it on, I pulled up to a stop today and this elderly woman boards and says out loud as if to make a point “I’m not so old you have to lower the bus for me” tutts and walks past, not in a jokingly way or anything, in a rude way as if I’ve done something wrong, just more proof you can’t do anything right How ungrateful. What I really dislike is when people give funny looks when stopping in the entire box instead of the flag. I ignore them because at a lot of stops they are stupidly positioned and people wait at them where the is a whole yellow box in the road which shows “Bus Stop”. If another bus is behind me I generally make space for other buses. One ridiculous stop is Bexleyheath Clock Tower Stop for 132 229 269 492 B12 N21 where pretty much most drivers stop at the stop flag and no other buses can serve it and when busy creates long queues in the whole market place into the main road, there is space for 2 when you pull up further all because an idiot placed the flag in a stupid place, then TFL are on about pollution and air quality etc all because brainless idiots cannot put stop flags in logical places . At all times if nothing is there I go right forward to make space. Overall to reduce congestion at Bexleyheath the 269 & B13 could serve the same stop as the 96 because there turning right to go to Bexleyheath Library From there and B12 to Joydens Wood the 401 moved to the other stop served by the 89 96 422 486 B11 B12 B13 B14 B15 B16. Pretty pointless the 96 to Bluewater having a stop of its own then the two other stops are overcrowded, really need to reorganise the stopping arrangements at Bexleyheath and how it has managed like this for so long is ridiculous. I’m probably one of your passengers who gives you a funny look... Whatever position the flag is in (and I know that stop well), it’s really irritating when a bus goes past that flag...

Doesn’t bother me at all really doesn't. The 401 takes forever to load especially at School times as well as alighting there as well as the 422 doing the same then causes congestion. If you find that irritating you don’t know how lucky you are seriously you should be grateful. What is irritating is waiting in ridiculous queues to get into Bexleyheath Clock Tower because of that stop and the ridiculous position of the flag so yes I always go past it if nothing is there to make space for another bus! When the 301 is introduced the area is going to be more congested!

I agree about the clock tower stop and the situation has been made worse with the 422 now setting down there and it can take a while to unload. I'm not sure about moving the 269 to the 96 stop as it's busy enough already and would remove the common stop with the 229. Completely agree a few weeks ago there was a queue of buses as far as Highland Road and was blocking regular traffic flow. You have a point about a common stop for 229 & 269. It's only the 96 serving that stop don't see the need for 1 service to have that entire stop.

Riding buses through central London is a miserable experience these days. Well, at least through Holborn/Leicester Square/Piccadilly. During the day I can walk faster between Holborn and Piccadilly than a bus. I bailed out of a trip earlier in the week on a 19 and I just endured a trip on the 38. Suffice to say the return leg will be via the Piccadilly Line. I really feel for 19 and 38 drivers it must be painful having to sit in that traffic all day. I usually only use buses in zones 2-4 so this is a surprise to me as 15-20 years ago in my crazy bus hopping days getting through central London on a bus was a breeze. Trust me I regret the day I handed in my route learned slip for the 19s!!!

I totally agree with what DT11 is saying some bus stop flags are stupidly positioned and you can't always stop exactly at the flag. Infact some flags are positioned beside bins, so should I stop by the flag then and obstruct the entrance to the bus? Some bus stops the flag is not even within the boxed area, Dalston (Kingsland Road, Forest Road) towards Shoreditch the flag is positioned infront of the actual bus stop marking therefore stopping at the flag means the front 1/4 of your bus is actually outside of the bus stop! Sorry but I think this behaviour is petty tbh, I have always been told as long as you stop within the marked area that's fine as some bus stop flags are not in a convenient place. And this is the general mentality of alot of passengers and then people wonder why bus drives "look so moody" nonsense like that is why!!

When you have a lot of stuff to carry at a busy bus stop, as I often do, the last thing you want is a bus to stop beyond the flag.

Carrying heavy bags I've carried heavy bags on buses many times doesn't interest me where it stops because I may not have been the only one carrying such heavy bags.

Plenty of stops where bins have been stupidly positioned as well as flags. Stops where the flag is like at the back on the stop and the cage is far up is stupid, like they had one job put it somewhere logical. Classic Stop is Grove Park Station which states Tailstop no one actually stops at the stop properly the back of the bus is meant to meet the flag, honestly just move it to the top. Layby stops I pull right in so I can see what's coming past me when pulling out and not to block the road either, plenty of them in Thamesmead. On many times I've seen people waiting at Layby stop most recently for me Leas Green someone decided to wait at the very top corner, like I'm gonna stop there really the front end of the bus will be blocking most of the road.

I just look at them and wonder how they even made it out of their house and safely to the bus stop.

Yeah - but waiting passengers will be unaware, on the whole, by this - and I tried the trick of waiting at the edge of the box once at that stop and of course the bus stopped at the flag! When you have a lot of stuff to carry at a busy bus stop, as I often do, the last thing you want is a bus to stop beyond the flag. Unaware? At most stops there is a yellow box. That's funny because some people will walk towards the bus doors before it has even stopped. You get those odd people who try to get on at unsafe places like you can wait like everyone else. People don't read blinds, the other day the bus in front of me had Chislehurst, War Memorial from the 1st stop then I picked up his passengers at Chislehurst, War Memorial this man got on and said "What's the point", I didn't even respond because he walked away so quickly as far as I was aware it is petty should be grateful I was going to Bromley North and not the same place. So I pay no attention to flags at particular stops where is has been postioned ridiculously so end up going past them anyways making me think why move. The Bus stop cages at some stops are large making me think what is the point so I don't pay attention to them when I have another bus behind or potentially another bus could turn up. Carrying heavy bags I've carried heavy bags on buses many times doesn't interest me where it stops because I may not have been the only one carrying such heavy bags. Oh I get why you do what you do - but from purely a passenger point of view it isn’t passenger friendly - and we are the reason buses exist! Another notorious stop for this is Erwood Road eastbound in Woolwich (53, 54, 422, 486). Not marked as a tailstop but often treated as such and it’s pot luck as to what each bus will do at the stop. In my case, nearly always the opposite to what I predict and it’s a pain in the backside!

Another ridicolous stop is Conyers Road Southbound (57,201,333) where it is marked as a tailstop but none of the drivers see is as one.If they stop correctly, there is space for 2 buses but they stop at the flag meaning there is only space for one

Any of the lay by stops along woodford avenue between Charlie Browns & Gants Hill in either direction, sometimes people stand in the corner at the top instead of in the middle.
