I'll be taking a trip on the H98 tomorrow so i can ride some of the YT09 Scania's while i still can. Was going to take another trip on this route or the H32 in November sometime, but would i be right in thinking that by then the YT09 SPs left on these routes will have been displaced by the YT10s from the 71? Nope, the YT09s will be continuing. They'll likely last until the end of the contract in March 2023. oh that's good to know then, I'm sure i speak for every single member here when i say they'll be sorely missed when gone!

The sooner all those horrid Scania heaps are gone, the better, in my opinion!

Having had a ADH on the 79 all day for the first time ever (I have previously only had one for my first or second half). I personally think they suit the route better than the VHs. I feel the VHs suit the more open roads and less stop start situations on the H12 better. It is interesting that you say that. Serial hybrid buses like the ADHs tend to do better in more stop start traffic, while parallel hybrids like the VH do better on faster roads with less stop / start traffic.

It happens, I do think though if the C3 goes and the 94 is cut back the spare electrics could be used on the 414 releasing hybrids to the 452 to allow the VDW to be sold. If the 414 doesn’t go itself… (then those electrics can be used on the 452 and hybrids sent to replace older diesels or more likely unreliable ADH’s) There seems to be little if any problem with the ADHs at X. The 414 always seems to have a full allocation and they appear occasionally on other X routes such the 13, and regularly in the evening on the 23. Not the sign of an unreliable bus.

As far as I understand that it will be a de facto merger of the 14 and 414, due to their similar routing? No, the 14 gets withdrawn regardless. To appease people the 414 may be renumbered as the 14 but the route that operates out of AF will be what goes. Indeed, it has to be this way because it is the 14 contract that is up for tender. If TfL decided instead to re-tender the 14 and axe the 414, they would likely be penalties payable by TfL for the termination of the 414 contract which isn't that old. Even if TfL were not broke, this would not be a good use of funds, so it makes sense to keep the 414 contract going, not re-tender the 14 and so not incur any penalties.

The sooner all those horrid Scania heaps are gone, the better, in my opinion! They're uncomfortable, in terrible condition, don't sound particularly nice... their only redeeming quality is nostalgia. Riding one on the 281 a few months ago was quite a letdown after seeing all the hype they got on here.

I share this view, I'm not a huge fan of SPs but they have a special place in my heart from the countless trips I've had on them mostly on the 65 (with a handful of trips on other routes like the 71, 183, 281). They're not pleasant buses to ride but after so with Scanias on the 65 the BCEs aren't doing it for me yet although they have grown on me.

When i was at the Worthing bus rally last Sunday i was talking to someone who told me apparently the drivers have had problems with the passenger bells on them as they started to sound deafiningly loud where the driver sits.

I think my SP on route H98 in March was 10-reg. I didn't find it as good as the 59-reg on route 183 in 2017.

Try to ride an 09 reg, they’re shared with the H32’s allocation and are very fadt SPs due to not being limited. They also worked the N111 so were required for fast speed.

I also think the quality of ride on SPs you will experience depends on the driver, a few days ago I had a very fast SP on the 85 at night which had been diverted to run an extra leg on the A3 through Kingston Vale and despite being limited did reach fast speeds overall. Taking the journey from Eden Street (near) to Putney Station in around 20 minutes.
