Imagine a future London bus network with retrofitted hybrid/electric buses; the return of DLAs on 159, or even AEC Routemasters on 12. I’m surprised it hasnt been experimented with further than the old VLW years ago…

But that could be interesting.

But that could be interesting. There was two and they were part of the unsuccessful Vantage hybrid trial which also involved two Go-Ahead WVL’s & two Arriva VLA’s. The buses were moved on after the trial finished

You don't know the cost of this conversion. Apparently future conversions would only take a week. The deal would include the new batteries so there would be a saving in not having to replace the existing batteries without conversion.

This is only my own prediction but I can see other regular Hybrids being retrofitted to EV. Makes sense especially for the newer vehicles.

There was an asterisk next to that claim of a week conversion. I’d be interested to know what they refers too.

Sounds like a good idea. When they were new, I remember it was touted that they had the possibility for electric conversion. Although the cost of doing this and I do not think Khan would want them in London longer than necessary due to it being tied to his predecessor.

Given the precarious state of TfLs finances, you hope any bias or vendetta is set aside, and whatever decision is arrived at is made in the public interest. But then, how often do the egos of politicians ever allow them to act in the public interest. Anyone seeking a path in politics must be morally corrupt.

I'm hoping to ride LT11 more to better check out the overall practical differences between its original motor and the HTM 3500 electric motor Eqintegrate's replaced it with...said to produce 3,500Nm torque at 1,000rpm with a maximum delivery power of 400kW (I'm not sure what the specs are with the other LTs). Would've loved for it to be trialled on the 3 to see how it handles the incline of College Road up to Crystal Palace. Having said that I don't know the area of the 390 beyond Kings Cross to Archway so it may have half decent inclines along the way.

The OP mentioned he was surprised it hasn't been investigated further before and the answer is because it's costly otherwise it would of been done - also, look at the last system of modifying a diesel bus to a more cleaner technology and how well that went hence my skepticism.
