I cannot believe they bought them without testing them up the steepest parts of Brighton leading up the Lewes Road and around that area? They did - they trialled a demonstrator for a while before ordering them. I've heard from a reliable source that they are sluggish up hill, especially in comparison to a Omnicity DD. That's because their Omnicity's have 270HP

Strangely, I think the B&H Coaster livery actually looks nice on these buses, unlike the Arriva Sapphire. Personally not a fan of the new front end myself, but we have to wait and see if it catches on in London (these could potentially end up on the 111 in a couple years' time) so I could be faced with seing it everyday. I don't like the NB4L-esque glazed staircase at all, it just doesn't suit a conventional bus at all. I honestly dont think the glass staircase would be ordered by any operator in London (vandalism, pervs peeking at ladies climbing stairs in tight skirts, more windows for kids to etch), I think they just added it to the demonstrator to show it could be added if anyone was crazy enough to do it... not sure how much weight the extra glass would add either But how does that explain the glass staircase on the LTs?

That's because their Omnicity's have 270HP I have just found details of a Streetdeck demonstator delivered to Brighton in February 2015 - "one of the Wright StreetDeck demonstrators is with Brighton & Hove, in silver livery, registration number SN64 CTU". So it would appear that an order was placed before this demonstrator was received as first deliveries were in April.

The third one of those is bloomin' confusing for a N38 as it's on diversion via Markhouse Road and South Grove. It's only when it went past Sainsburys in WW that I realised where the hell the bus was. Not quite sure why people have a downer on DB300s - some are slow but many on the 123 at weekends are decent enough. Saw 40mph on the clock twice on Saturday although the driver didn't put his foot down climbing up the A406 at South Woodford. That's usually fun with the right driver.

I have been hearing alot more negatives than positives about the streetdecks.

As far as I know they actually ordered them before the demo bus arrived, i think it was at the expo in november it was announced that B & H had ordered 25 of them and besides the demo bus was useless on the hills aswell anyway. Seen a video of it on youtube.

I cannot believe they bought them without testing them up the steepest parts of Brighton I said the same thing to David21 the other week. They did - they trialled a demonstrator for a while before ordering them. I've heard from a reliable source that they are sluggish up hill, especially in comparison to a Omnicity DD. That's because their Omnicity's have 270HP HP does help but it is more about torque (pulling power) for hills and 663lb ft is no where near enough for a 11m DD. HP is more for when the buses are on flat NSL roads.

I only dislike the ones new to BN because they began restricting the acceleration on them after a few months in service. The ones new to North London are a lot better including the ones transferred into BN which have been left alone....so far. WDL1 is a lovely bus as are the 4 WN's.

Brighton's former Scania N113DRB's were exceptionally good hill climbers and their N94UD's do a good job too.

I know of those ... just none like the DLAs being thrashed to an inch of their lives... I think the DB300's are decent, it's a shame there was no Euro6 version (though there is the Eu6 Cummins in the MMC) B&H would have done better to put a fast single decker like SB200's on that route, I'm sure the torque issue can be adjusted

I've only done a return trip to / from Eastbourne on it but it was completely heaving. Part of that was due to a gap in the return service so I let a bus go but even then the buses I used were very busy. There's no way that single deckers could cope on that route plus you'd lose the benefit of the view from the upper deck. I've had a very zippy ride on a SB200 between Liverpool and Runcorn on Arriva's X1 - another bus service. Arriva North West 3140 Runcorn Bus Station by plcd1, on Flickr

I like the SB200s personally and they do sound nuts when thrashed there are a load of videos on the internet.
