Quick question - with some of these extras does it mean operators have withdrawn buses still under MOT and taxed even when not in regular use?

Bendy buses (Well Coaches) returned to the 25 today Ensign showing how it should be done as normal. I wish Ensign would reconsider biding for TFL work! they really are a premium operator.

With "non-compliant" buses, e.g. 15495 (Stagecoach white), Routemasters, bendys, Ensign buses and other buses working extras, I assume TfL aren't too bothered that they're not to spec, as long as an extra service is run?
Also, I guess these buses can't be monitored on iBus? How do the drivers get in contact / receive messages from CentreComm?
Do penalties apply on strike days for operators not running services to timetables (almost impossible!) , not being able to run the full mileage (traffic!) etc?

I expect there is an element of "beggars can't be choosers" when it comes to vehicles. Provided they're safe and in reasonable condition then TfL will be delighted to have them running. I don't know about Centrecomm communications but I'd expect Ensign are able to contact each vehicle via their own radio or via mobile phone / text which would require the driver to stop and check. There will also be TfL mobile units out and about who can provide advice to the drivers of the extra buses. I think that extreme traffic conditions which no reasonable operator could be expected to cope with in their schedules are not counted in determining any contract payment adjustments (happy to be corrected). The issue will be determining in a fair way as to what routes are affected by the strike and those which are not. On the face of it the 123 doesn't touch Central London but it is in a bad way because so many people are trying to crush on to it to get to Seven Sisters to pick up the Victoria Line. There were 20 people at my local stop earlier - never seen that many people waiting for a bus and I doubt they'd be able to get on a 123 (I was waiting for something else so didn't see).

There are 10 RTs/RMs on the 29 from London bus company. My dad is driving and my sister a conductor and she got asked is this bus real by some one!!!
Also if anyone has Instagram, search the hash tag tube strike and there are quite a few pictures of the older buses

Penalties only apply to things within the operators control such as vehicle breakdowns and driver abscence with insufficient cover etc.
