There is one particular side street not far from Mayday hospital which is having its streetlights completely changed for the second time in 10 years. I don't remember the name of the road but it's off Whitehorse Road just before the hump railway bridge going towards Crystal Palace.
This particular street only had one third of its lampposts replaced (mayday hospital end), alongside a newly built residential section. These lamppost are the ones been replaced again.

Pawsons Road is what your thinking of. Beulah Hill is another road where its having its lampposts replaced more than once in the last 10-15 years. The section of Beulah Hill between Crown Point and Spa Hill had its lovely lampposts with their decorative column bases replaced by Urbis ZX3's with standard columns around 2000 and now those same Urbis ZX3's are being replaced with Phillips SGS253's whilst the rest of Beulah Hill's lampposts wasn't replaced until around 2005.

I loved the original ones they had there where each lamppost was directly opposite each other with the cable running across the road between each set. Clapham Junction is another area where the lamps have changed again from within the last 10–15 years. I don't think many councils are up-to-date with which streets have been upgraded, where like you said some streets have had the lamps changed twice whereas others are still the same from the 1950s/60s.

I only just noticed last night that some of the the lampposts on the A24 between colliers wood and tooting Broadway stations have been/are being replaced by the energy saver versions, similar to what Lambeth have on Coldharbour lane but with longer necks. The weird thing is that the street lights being replaced are from high-street tooting (junction of Sittincourt Road) into high-street colliers wood (junction of Marborough Road), which means that section of the A24 will have the same lamppost designs for the first time since trolleybuses. The ones being replaced have similar designs except merton's were from the mid 70s whereas Wandsworth's were from the late 80s/early 90s. The 1950/60's concrete ones before them were also different designs between the two boroughs, tooting high street ones being the same as Balham, Clapham, Streatham and parts of Putney and Roehampton. I'm with you in that I prefer the old lamp posts, especially in their silver livery with were giveaways that one's withing the borough of Croydon. Neighbouring Merton Council still have similar designs in the SW19/20 areas and Mitcham has two in Locks Lane (by Figgs Marsh roundabout) that never got upgraded with the rest. Despite the outer boroughs still having many older stock im still amazed at the number of concrete columns the borough of Sutton still have, including some good conditioned ones by Sutton Garage and Rose Hill/ St Helier.

Sutton seem to be slowly introducing new columns with LED lighting on some side roads so these concrete columns may not last for many more years which is a shame as they look in good nick and most are identical to the ones we had in Lambeth around 10 years ago, the only difference being that Sutton's collection are mainly short armed versions. Greenwich, Bexley & Havering still have large collections of concrete columns dotted around their boroughs and there doesn't seem to be any imminent replacements either which is good lol.

An update of sorts:
The dreaded and horrible looking LED lights are vast spreading throughout London. The A12 through Havering lost its lights to LED's which included some lovely Philips MA's & the A127 in Havering also lost its lights.
Bromley have removed a lot of its Thorn Riviera style lights (roughly 10-15 years old) in favour of LED's & some Philips SGS203's have also been replaced though the majority seem to be staying. Some side roads have also gained LED's too.
Barnet have been introducing LED's around Golders Green & on the Hendon Way which removed some Philips MA's though most of their lamppost stock remains untouched being introduced in the PFI scheme in the 00's.
Lambeth have just recently installed LED's in Kennington for the junction works at Oval & the Post Office which led to the casualty of a twin armed Thorn Alpha 8 Mk1 column (no more survive now) and also Harleyford Road South & Kennington Oval received LED's replacing the only GEC 'Turtle' lights left in the borough. Google Maps show two remain standing among the cluster of horror LED's but I suspect they have gone by now. 12,000 odd LED's are expected for Lambeth to replace existing lighting beginning in September according to a document on the internet - work is expected to start in September. I hope my road keep its decent looking lights (wish I knew the name).
Wandsworth replaced the Urbis ZX2's on the dual carriageway section of Trinity Road with LED's earlier in the year and they've recently began replacing more Urbis ZX2's along Battersea Rise & Clapham Common North Side. Sadly, there was Wandsworth's last 5 Thorn Alpha 8 Mk2's also residing along there - another collection of lovely lights banished.
Merton has begun installing LED's around Colliers Wood replacing Urbis ZX2's & 3's and the LED's have crept up to the border with Wandsworth and in fact, passed right over. My hunch is the A3 could be next.
Richmond has just recently cleared out loads of Philips MA's from the A316 from Chiswick Bridge Road right down over Twickenham Bridge and beyond. However, there are a large number of Thorn Alpha 8's between Ham & Richmond that can be seen from a 65 and a small collection of Philips MA's near Hampton.
Hounslow's PFI earlier this year means it has more LED street lights than any other London borough and sadly removed so many lovely Philips MA's & Thorn Alpha 4's but there are still pockets of these around - a lot of junctions did not have new lights installed and some roads remain untouched. Thorn Alpha 4's were never around in droves but are even more scarce now - Havering has 3 just south of Romford Station and the remaining ones left in Hounslow - that's it.

Other Boroughs in comparison have had many columns replaced twice over since the 70s and 80s. * - from Mitcham Hillingdon & Bexleyheath are like that too - good, sizeable numbers of concrete columns on side streets with elderly but lovely looking lights. Do you know if Sutton had a PFI during the 90's as a lot of main roads have columns with Urbis ZX2's on which would suggest the 1990's to me.

When I was in Sutton I noticed quite a lot of new LED lights replacing Urbis ZXs, which is disappointing. I'm rather surprised Finchley Road didn't get LEDs which is great as there's a nice range of lanterns there plus loads of Thorn Alpha 8s! I do feel their days are numbered though. I don't mind LED lights, I just wish they weren't so ugly looking. They're nice on residential roads - in fact I have a new one outside my door. Still ugly though. If councils could consider retrofitting Phillips MAs with LEDs, that'd be great ( Luton has already done something similar here with older lanterns)

I'm rather surprised Finchley Road didn't get LEDs which is great as there's a nice range of lanterns there plus loads of Thorn Alpha 8s! I do feel their days are numbered though. I don't mind LED lights, I just wish they weren't so ugly looking. They're nice on residential roads - in fact I have a new one outside my door. Still ugly though. There's three on Chapel Street near Hyde Park Corner and the odd example on Regent Street by the Pizza Hut at Piccadilly Circus. There's two Mk1 Thorn Alpha 8's without bowels on Crystal Palace Park Parade surrounded by Philips SGS203's. Enfield seems to be the place in London with the most - Hedge Lane, Aldermans Hill, Nag's Head Road, Lea Valley Road, Turkey Street & Cattlegate Road all have Mk3 Thorn Alpha 8's as well as your suggestion of Slade Hill/Enfield Road. Other notable places to have some is the road to access Beckton Sainsburys, Kingston Town Centre surrounding the station & Fairfield Halls, extending down to Kingston Hall Road. Portsmouth Road used to have them years ago but they've disappeared. Some still survive on Kennington Road between Kennington Lane & Kennington Park Road but I believe they are on extremely borrowed time.
