A few of the concrete streetlights in Grove Road off the Sutton gyratory are not working, their lamps presumably blown. One's already lost its 'red- into-amber' lamp for a more modern variant (not LED) whilst another was struggling to shine as it ommits a very dim flickering red. That struggling one's now working again, still with its present 'red-into-amber' unit Interesting as I noticed from my last visit that they’ve begun removing the remaining concrete columns on certain roads in the west of the borough

Glad that Sutton Council's been taking their time on general upgrades

One's already lost its 'red- into-amber' lamp for a more modern variant (not LED) whilst another was struggling to shine as it ommits a very dim flickering red. The streetlights along Angel Hill have been modified with LED units barring the solitary concrete variant which still has its modernised (non LED) lamp. Edit: One concrete variant still shines strong with its 'red-into-amber' lamp on Green Lane, easily seen from the Rose Hill roundabout during the appropriate times. Passed by Grove Road last night to find a clean sweep of completely new LED streetlights in operation where a fortnight earlier they were still concretes, abeit three or four LED retrofitted. Most of the side streets off Angel Hill are also now with completely brand new posts. I must say this is the fastest I have seen of group of streetlight conversions, Sutton Council not messing about. Although very effective¹ it's yet sad giving the remaining concretes may now be lucky to see in 2025 at the rate progress seems to be moving. The solitary 'red-into-amber' concrete on Green Lane is still working as of last night. Moving to Lavender Avenue in Mitcham, it's thirty years this year since the tall Revo concretes were removed from that road, this being the last lot under Merton Council. Interestingly the identical ones on adjoining London Road and Western Road (as well as High Street Colliers Wood) never even made it to the 80s, them replaced by 1979. The fluorescent lamp concretes along Merton High Street were sadly replaced at the same time, the first of that variant I remember going prior to the ones around Merton Park, Raynes Park, Morden, Rose Hill and Carshalton. The last of that type were the handful in Carshalton which lasted until the late 1980s, me last seeing them then on a DMS operated 157 ¹ - somewhat the opposite of Lambeth which removed concretes on Ferndale Road (Clapham North) seven years after their replacements were put in

I think Havering will end up being the final London borough with concrete columns that have an assured future other than a few estates in Lambeth who have retained the concrete columns erected in the 70’s & early 80’s and now have LED’s fitted
