I'm very impressed with the interior. The drivers dash is starting to look more Volvo like with those type of switches.... Comparing the old e400 specs to this new one the single seat downstairs behind the cab has been removed. From these specs the new bus appears to have 3 more seats which are now located upstairs. My comparison here

As much as I love the current Enviro 400 this new version looks absolutely fantastic, much better than the latest Wright Gemini.
Having said that, the new Gemini is growing on me, I don't know why but the Stagecoach ones look much better than V6, as do the Dublin Bus demonstrators

Hmm looking at those comparative layouts it looks like
- no understair seat on the new version (no great loss) - bigger wheelchair bay - staircase pushed forward - the staircase looks slightly more compact so I wonder if the step depth will be slightly greater than now? - less legroom upstairs in order to squash in 4 seats. A slight shame given the upstairs legroom on the E40D is normally fairly decent.

Yeah but on ADLs specification sheet it also says +1 seat for a London bus but the layout diagram suggests 3 more... bit confused

Does this mean the 49, 286, C3, E1 and some later versions of the Stagecoach models order will be upgraded to this new version?

IMO, it looks horrible. But maybe it'll grow on me...

the black bits on the back ruin it for me. Id have them in red but overall i like the look of it especially the front and sides

The silver one looks like a hybrid as it has grilles on the left. ADL seem confused with the grille positioning on hybrids, it started on the right then moved to the left then back to the right now it seems on the left again

I like the glass staircase rear wall as it looks to give the interior that more of a spacious feel. Also, by using the interior mirrors it 'should' help the driver see if anyone is on the staircase. EDIT: a bit confuse with this bus as it appears to have a 6.7L engine, but yet Abellio's decker orders are all hybrids.

I didn't notice that when I first looked at the Vehicle Spec, looks fantastic along with the glossy stair walls. All in all, I'm really very impressed with the vehicle

A slight shame given the upstairs legroom on the E40D is normally fairly decent. The staircase looks more compact because the lower deck entrance as 2 steps like the New Routemaster, which is a nice subtle space-saving measure - my only concern is whether it might slightly affect passenger flow - hate it when people stand at the foot of the staircase when there are plenty of seats upstairs. It's still 9 steps to the upper deck which is no change from now. As for legroom, it's quite interesting how the E400 started as a 'short' bus with a 6 and a half bays at 9.9m/10m or whatever with 12 rows of seats upstairs - before the Gemini short versions simply tended to have 6 bays. The bus has gradually increased in length to the point now where it's almost as long as the 'long' ALX 400, at 10.3m, just 0.2m shorter than the 10.5m ALX 400, and layout wise we are back to 1 seat every half bay. I wonder why they don't just have it at 10.5m - would just make enough difference to the legroom for the bus not to feel cramped.

In case your interested, the Enviro 400/400H lengths were as follows: Euro III & IV SWB - 10.1m LWB - 10.8m Euro V SWB - 10.2m LWB - 10.9m Provincial Hybrid spec - 11.4m Euro VI SWB - 10.3m LWB - 11m Provincial Hybrid spec - 11.5m Mk 2 Enviro 400/400H SWB - 10.3m LWB - 10.9m - seems this has been slightly shortened? Provincial Hybrid spec - 11.5m I don't have any issue with the legroom on Enviro 400's or 400H's so personally, wouldn't extend the length.

Thanks for the info. It is quite interesting how the length of the SWB bus has gradually crept up to almost catch up with the old LWB ALX 400. You don't have any issue with the legroom now, but the new E400 has an extra row of seats than the old E400 at the same length, so I think a little bit of crampedness will be expected.

People said that about the Streetlight when they squeezed in the seats and there is enough legroom (I'm 6'2'' so I'd like to think I'm a good test case in these situations lol).
