Here's my list of route ideas and extension plans that have never emerged from the TfL incubator into reality. W19 extension to Aldborough Hatch 306 from Ilford to Woodford Bridge 228 Horn Park to North Greenwich (part replaced by the 132 extension) 330 extension to Canary Wharf E10 / Ell extension to Chiswick Business Park 223 extension to North Wembley 323 extension to Portelet Road Rumoured routes to run into Dalston Junction Bus Station that never progressed beyond the developer's Transport Strategy. W16 to Stratford City (part replaced by 339 extension) Please feel free to add to my list as I can't know all the schemes that have been considered and abandoned. EDIT - U10 to Uxbridge Industrial Estate plus increased frequency / longer hours Going back as far as when the a variant of the 306 was proposed: 362 from Barkingside to Ilford (replaced eventually by the 462) Did the W14 ever get extended beyond Woodford Bridge to Repton Park as was one proposed?

So the 228 would not have been as direct as the 132 Eltham to north Greenwich link (proposed as an extension of the B16)as it would have gone via Blackheath and Greenwich.
I remember the 225 pplan now to Aldgate and the 332 not 432. The 430 was going to be 385.

I seem to recall a proposal to extend the 344 to Islington. Also heard about the 468's to Croydon airport/Colonnade, though I am not sure if that one was a planned consultation or just pure speculation.

The U1 to South Ruislip somewhere... Wasn't it gonna go down to Stonefield Way via (something along the lines of) South Ruislip Stn, Sidmouth Drive and Ruislip Manor Stn? A few more U routes, U2 extended to Uxbridge Business Park - which is somewhere near the original Uxbridge garage. I read this in the Uxbridge Gazette, dunno if there was any truth in it. U7/U9, U7 being extended across the whole U9 route and thus the U9 being withdrawn U10 extended to Uxbridge Industrial Estate - Looked good on paper, but having gone down the estate recently, it's like a ghost town!

Just found a list of proposals from 2003 to 2004 mainly of new routes being created along side existing ones like the 436 & 453 for example. But the interesting one was the proposal to renumber the Crystal Palace to Brixton section of the 2 as the 332 (it instead was renumbered 432). I think that was a very sensible change, just imagine the confusion a 322 and a 332 running between Crystal Palace and Brixton but via different routes would have caused

and the 499 to somewhere in Chadwell Heath Doing a bit of a search about the 499 brought up these papers from Barking and Dagenham Council. It looks like the 499 was going to get a big extension through Chadwell Heath and up almost to the A12 Briefing PaperMap

And yet more digging has finally uncovered what this was going to do. Seemingly via Queens Hospital and then the 499 via Rush Green Road, Becontree Heath, Wood Lane, Marston Avenue, Rusholme Avenue, Frizlands Lane, Oxlow Lane, Croppath Road, Alibon Road, Hunters Hall Road, Reede Road, Dagenham Heathway, Dagenham Avenue, Goresbrook Road. (Not sure where it would terminate). This looks like another useful extension that died the death due to residents and Council complaints despite it serving a very dense area of housing.

Indeed, I wasn't sure on the routing but knew it would of taken the back roads to get there. It looks like it would of been useful!
In fact, It must have been fairly close to happening as the buses got blinded for it...

How far back are we going? Can't remember dates but the 63 had a proposal to run to Vale Royal via York Way for ages, the 7 had a planned extension to Euston back in the 80's and some Metros even got blinds that included Russell Square as a via point long before it was rerouted there. Also, the 77 was going to be rerouted in the early '80s along Moyser Road between Tooting and Streatham, indeed the RM via blinds had 'Furzedown' as a via point.

In fact, It must have been fairly close to happening as the buses got blinded for it... Yes - annoyingly Barking and Dagenham Council have not published the report on the 498 proposal or, at least, I cannot find it on their website despite it being clearly stated a report was being produced. Reading the report about the 499 proposal throws up a load of old nonsense (IMO, of course) about noise, crime, vandalism etc. I can partly understand concerns about parking because everyone believes they have an inalienable right to park where they want and especially in front of their house even though there is no legal right to park on the highway. Worse the 499 proposal had B&D Council demanding that TfL pay for any changes to speed humps *and* for resurfacing the roads (which the council had left to rot!). The other thing that was interesting was that back in 2007/8 the local Boroughs have a target imposed on them by the Mayor of London to improve access to more accessible forms of transport. Didn't work when it came to these schemes and I wonder if there is still a target from the Mayor or not. Given the lack of funding for improvements I doubt that there is.
