No, the driver should have never ordered her to leave the bus.

I really do wonder just how accurate some of these stories are quite honestly but if it is correct then the driver should be in the managers office for a chat

But as usual with the newspapers they big up on the part where the woman had done absolutley nothing wrong... Whatsoever

More to this story, thats for sure.
'84 yr man had to walk miles because bus driver refused to stop at the bus stop'
Now, the above is a headline that could apply to what happend on my bus today.
But the REAL story?
On my route(498) there are re surfacing works on london road. I stop at a bus stop, and using the PA system say, 'folks, the next stop is closed because of the roadworks'. I then press the 'next stop is closed' button twice. As I approach closed stop, someone rings the bell, I carry on and an old boy comes up to the front of the bus screaming and shouting that he wanted the stop. 'mate, did you not hear the announcement 3 TIMES saying the stop is closed?' 'I don't care, I wanted to get off'. He then gives me a mouth full of abuse!!
Can't win!!!!

Surely the woman in question had a travelcard considering she commutes to London Bridge?

Surely the woman in question had a travelcard considering she commutes to London Bridge? You can get rail-only season tickets, in this case Romford to London Terminals, which wouldn't be valid on buses. That costs £169 and would only be valid anywhere between Romford and Liverpool Street, while one including Z1-6 and therefore buses costs £219.70; she said her ticket costs about £200, so I wonder which one it is?

Drivers are more better to announcing it themselves because of the PA system. So many passengers are transfixed to their phones and music that they won't notice Emma Hignett's voice announcing to passengers about a change to the service. So a driver using a PA system would sometimes make passengers notice about a change to the service. Something like "Your attention please, your attention please, the next bus stop is closed and this bus will not serve the next stop, so here is your chance to leave the bus." Then we see if the formula works. Just like your signs that you made to make passengers aware of Cashless. But it's the passengers responsibility to listen to the announcements or not, they shouldn't go to the front of the bus giving grief to the driver because of service change which the driver announced through his ibus.

Read Rambo's post again will you. He used the PA. The simple fact of the matter here, is that despite the best efforts of this clearly not afraid to use the PA driver, somebody still ignored the information supplied. As do passengers all over London. No matter how much information you give people, there will always be one that thinks it somehow doesn't apply to them

I've lost count of the times when drivers pull over at the previous stop, play the announcement and wait for people to alight and then drive off only to have the bell pushed and people walk to the exit door as the bus reaches the closed stop. The same happened on the tube recently - lots of announcements that a station was closed and please get off here and continue on the surface. Train drives off and reaches closed station and lots of people get up to get off. You can't win.

I have misread it because I posted it late at night. my bad. But most drivers tend to rely on the ibus to make announcements where passengers mostly ignore. ]is the right answer. Well I found one YouTube video where someone pretends to be a driver and uses a megaphone in disguise as a PA system, they use it to tell passengers that the next train is terminating but in reality its not, then when the train approaches the station many passengers got off and realised its not true and some gone back in the train. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvI_vVF0QLU#t=50 Scroll to 0:50 on the video.

Oh yes no mistaking that some drivers are their own worst enemies. I'm of the opinion (which I'm sure I've shard on here many times before!) that drivers fall into 2 categories: 1/. The Professionals - Those that give a d*mn about the job, drive to a standard you'd expect from a professional driver and do their best to help the passengers. 2/. The Steering Wheel Attendants - Those that couldn't give a poo about the job and are only in it for the pay packet. Unfortunately this category out numbers those in the first.

From my observations, drivers are pretty good at announcing 'next bus stop closed' announcements and that's not just in my local area either.
