And there have been 2 routes along that section for a long time now. 57/95 then 57 and 133 and now 57/333.

However, there may be a 'nimby' issue - I think it may have been agreed only to be available for sd, and not on a regular basis. (Illegally) parked cars are also an issue. Even then, that stand would unlikely be able to hold the 57. Absolutely crazy idea given the 333 regularly has heavy loadings along with the 57 on that section as well. Westbound, many passengers wanting to go to Tooting from Streatham Hill would be unable to board a 333 at certain times of the day ime.

And there have been 2 routes along that section for a long time now. 57/95 then 57 and 133 and now 57/333. Before that, 3 routes, the ex-tram routes 95 and 181 plus the 57. The 95 was basically a predecessor of the 333, Tooting to Elephant/Cannon Street while the 181 operated Streatham Garage to Victoria via Tooting and Clapham Common. There was also, arguably (and I would argue its case) London's premier night route, the 287, later N87, a circular from Victoria Embankment via Brixton, Streatham, Tooting and Clapham, operated, perhaps confusingly, in both directions under the same number! The point is Southcroft Road has always been an important road transport hub, made even more so by the complexity of local rail with most local stations not even pretending to operate frequent services, even in the peak, and Tooting to Streatham or Brixton unavailable by rail. Sadiq Khan's 'local knowledge' might just prevent a crass decision being made here.

It’s a busy corridor and has been for ages - even during the 90’s, it wasn’t uncommon to find busy 133’s & 57’s along there.

There's always been a goodly number of people wanting to go from Wimbledon to places beyond Tooting Broadway in the direction of Streatham, as well as the latter place itself. At one time, of course, the 131 never went further east than Wimbledon, on weekdays anyway.

The problem with the 57/333 between Tooting Bdy and Streatham St Leonards is it's overbussed in the off peak and underbussed in the peaks. Peak hour traffic is to Tooting Bdy tube from those areas along Southcroft Road and Mitcham Lane (and vice versa). Buses packed to the rafters at Tooting Bdy empty very quickly within a few stops. Long ago, the 77 (peak hour?) extension to St Leonards worked, I thought, a lot better than a more frequent 57, but unlikely to return now. Remember also the Clapham Park part of the 57 provides a useful shopper service to Streatham.

Yes that's a problem with a lot of routes, under bussed at peak times and over bussed at other times because of TfL inflexibility.
