It would be unnecessary and would be a waste of money so what's the point of the renumbering? I did say right at the beginning that it would be unnecessary and a waste of money... If it is unnecessary and a waste of money and you believe it's unnecessary and a waste of money then why mention it?

Roundabout was a local operating arm of the Selkent division of London buses.
At its inception all the Roundabout R routes were new routes or culminations of existing routes with the aim to improve local transport access in the Orpington area.
Roundabout operated a varied fleet of mini and midi buses including van derived types, (merc and Renault) optare city pacers, MCW metro riders and Carlyle bodied darts (DT's). I'm not entirely sure but i don't think it was devised as a low cost operation, unlike Bexleybus or Harrow Buses as most of the fleet was bought new, especially the DT's.
It was around 1996 when Selkent lost most of not all of its R routes upon tender to Centrewest who formed the Orpington Buses brand, a few routes also passed to other operators such as Crystals of Dartford (R2 and R7 ring a bell) and Kentish bus/Arriva (R5 and R8)
Then of course centrewest was bought by first group and then after several route losses to the likes of selkent and it's newer (in terms of existence) competitor Metrobus, First sold the remaining Orpington operation to Go-Ahead who amalgamated it into the Metrobus operation.
Local enthusiast Tom Gurney has written a detailed book about Roundabout, indeed he also owns a preserved ex roundabout DT.

I thought the R referred to the actual roundabout at the Orpington War Memorial end of the high street which all of the routes negotiate to this day.
