They are generally very unpopular, I do hope the consultation results in the "longer train" preference being selected rather than "metro style" Oh I don’t mind ‘metro style’. I like the 378s, although I know they would go down like a lead balloon on much of the SE network. I want a train that is comfortable, well designed and well looked after. SE 376s are none of those. 378s are fine as the overground is an intense metro network, SE however most journeys are a minimum of 20 minutes. Average is likely to be around 35-45 minutes really which 376s really aren't suitable for. Not saying they need tables or anything but heavily upseated in the main sections would be appreciated by everyone.

The trend everywhere is for less seats to allow more standing space, see Classes 345, 700 and 707. Loads of people make 40+ minute journeys on Tube stock (Epping to Bank, Hounslow area to Green Park), and if history was different it could have been the Dartford lines on the Tube. 376s aren't the best but I'd much rather travel on those for long journeys than on Tube stock. And if the passengers on the Dartford lines had their beloved TfL take over which they were so disappointed not to get, they'd at best get an S8-style mixed interior.

Competition for new franchise is now open, appears new franchisee is required to remove first class within 18 months, and boost capacity with space (note says space, not seats) for 40,000 more passengers per day. Link

Link Very good news that first class is to be removed. Absolutely no need for it on Southeastern services.

Southeastern are operating a reduced service tomorrow with some stations closed, I had actually assumed this was a joke when I first heard about it but clearly not.

Yes, the planned service on the Greenwich line in particular is a disgrace, with a number of busy stations closed. Southeastern give up even more easily than I do when it comes to snow. Until I was able to work from home as much I now do, the 53 would have been my saviour in these conditions. It's got me to work and back through the snow more times than I care to remember.

Apparently South Eastern sent out an incorrect map with lots of Greenwich line closures. Seems this has been corrected (I've just checked) and there are not the mass closures on the Greenwich route. Only Albany Park on the Sidcup line is closed plus the Bromley North branch although that's bad enough. I suspect that someone decided that mass closures including Deptford, Erith and Plumstead was not exactly a good idea and plans have been adjusted. I wonder if the fact the franchise is in the process of being re-let may have concentrated minds at Govia somewhat. And yes that's a very cynical view on my part.

Extraordinary: I checked on the National Rail app earlier and trains were coming up as cancelled, so it must be a late change. Southeastern's comms are dreadful. I feel sorry for their hapless Twitter team who are going to be on the end of all this, they take some fearful stick on the company's behalf.

There are trains running on the Greenwich line, either 2 or 4tph depending on the station. It's places like Farningham Road that I feel sorry for, the line is open and trains are running through there but not stopping and no bus service either due to the weather conditions. I fully understand Southeastern running a reduced service but would have thought reductions would have been spread out evenly across the network rather than leaving some people with nothing.
