It’s not official, and at the moment one source is reporting it. There is a wider announcement expected on Thursday from Grant Shapps re the railways. Looks like the long awaited Williams review will be published - track & train expected to be merged into one organisation known as Great Britsh Railways, with Network Rail subsumed. Then Overground-esque concession style agreements for each area. Much speculation about the future of South Eastern metro & Great Northern too..... Looks like its is definitely go for the publication of the Williams Report tomorrow. Community Rail Network has sent out an email stating that one of their number has attended a briefing event at the DfT today and has received an embargoed press release.

Here is the "Great British Railways - the Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail" if you fancy a little light reading: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/987752/gbr-williams-shapps-plan-for-rail.pdfFor London and The South-East, the report proposes a new partnership bringing together Great British Railways, TfL, local authorities and businesses to co-ordinate timetables and investments. Whilst this doesn't rule out certain Southeastern routes becoming the responsibility of TfL under the London Overground banner, it falls far short of suggesting this will actually happen. EDIT: a new Great British Railways thread has been created - see post below - so please take any discussion about Southeastern trains becoming part of London Overground there.

To avoid hijacking the SouthEastern thread, I’ve already created a separate Great British Railways thread within the National Rail section.

Eek! For a whole host of reasons, this is not a good idea. Cost would be astronomical for little gain for a start. To me the two most useful things you could do on Southeastern infrastructure wise would be to untangle Lewisham (unlikely now that buildings have gone up around the station) and to link Northfleet and Ebbsfleet stations together. Forgot Wilmington station. Perhaps an alternative could just be for the regional to just carry on the Bexleyheath line, and call at Bexleyheath.

There is no station in Wilmington….

The Woolwich line excursions to Ramsgate are running again and I was surprised to see that they now call at all the minor stations in SE London rather than key stations and also now run via Greenwich and not Lewisham, why is this?

Noticed these services to Ramsgate when browsing Realtime Trains yesterday. Can't believe it's that time of the year already! Pleased to see that these summer special services are still running. AFAIK they have been running via Greenwich for the last few years at least. I believe since 1 or 2 years ago, they've been calling at all stations along the Greenwich and Woolwich lines. Not sure why, I'm guessing it's because of reduced headways due to Thameslink.

Yeah I was down in Margate yesterday (flat hunting) and saw a Cannon Street train going via Woolwich, which I am pleasantly surprised still runs, I remember in the 1990s as a child getting on a Ramsgate Special from Charing Cross on a slam door train, after London Bridge they called only at Blackheath, Woolwich Arsenal, Abbey Wood, Dartford, Gravesend, Strood, Medway non stop to Faversham then Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate and Ramsgate, occasionally they would call At Lewisham and by the 2000s they added Charlton and Lewisham as regular stops The extra stops to this service makes it look like a nightmarish metro route, 2 hours 30 mins end to end, unlike the 90s where the journey was done in about 1 hour 40 mins

It's not really intended for end to end journeys, obviously there are faster services between London and Ramsgate.
