DEL2245 on the 316 have no blinds at all I was told on Sunday by a Metroline staff member that they are struggling to get the displays from McKenna. They apparently have cut back on their smart blind team.

Having seen the process on making the smart blinds, not surprised Smart blinds with a maintenance contract are still around a quarter of the price of LED units. This means they are cheaper over the life of buses in London service.

I believe new blinds are very expensive and sometimes buses have frequent changes. With LEDs it’s just a quick update.

LEDs are very expensive and new smart blinds if required and not covered by the contract would still be better value to the operator. Quick updates are not always proving to be that good with LED updates.

The fact that just about every bus operator in the country uses LED's and ex London buses are retrofitted with them must say something?

Facts speak for themselves.

Do you have shares in smart blinds? No but I have spoken to managers from McKenna who can supply both. Facts speak for themselves. I can’t help but feel they would say smart blinds are the cheaper option because it creates a steady, albeit small, revenue stream for them. Switching the entire London market to LEDs hurts their bottom line as in the long term the tech is cheaper, far more environmentally friendly and better for more visually challenged passengers who may have trouble seeing at night or low light.
