I came across this last night. The iBus warning would always sound as it's part of it's route and turns right directly infront of the bridge. I really shouldn't be finding the "Earth-shattering" advert amusing Hope the injured passengers recover quickly.

Anyone have a recording of such an iBus recording? AFAIK it still gives a succession of BEEPS with arrows on the displays pointing in the direction of the bridge/s. I don't think they're any verbal recordings, unless there's been an update. Single deckers on the 152 and 200 used to BEEP when passing Raynes Park Bridge despite the structure being high enough even for double deckers. I had often though it was really doing so because of the nearby pedestrian tunnel access, which in the 70s used to be used for traffic.

Do love the Daily Fail's reporting: "It might have been on diversion as it normally doesn't pass the bridge" Errr, yes it does. It goes right up to the bridge and then turns right. Anyway, I passed by the bridge today and noticed that the height sign that was on the bridge has been removed and there's a massive dent in the black and yellow bit.

I've asked this before, too often sadly, but is it a design feature of modern buses that the roof comes off like I take the top off an egg?

Unless the bus driver suffered some sort of medical problem at time this really is inexcusable, it's a well known low bridge with ample signage although this is by no means the first bus to hit it.

Indeed - funnily enough, I actually got the number of signs warning how high the bridge is wrong - there's actually 4 and not 3 signs between the Norwood Junction Station bus stop and the bridge. The one I missed is on Clifford Road. So even less of excuse really.

I presume those upstairs were all seated during the incident, thank goodness the bridge was high enough to wipe out the roof of the bus rather than the seats! Otherwise this incident would've been much worse

I tried to dig a little deeper and asked the question why?
So I searched other bus routes that pass under that bridge that are run by Arriva and came up with 'Route 410' a single decker, could it be a case of a NEW/SPARE DRIVER and route confusion while distracted...I'm not trying to make excuses but it happens...
I'm a newish driver myself and I made a wrong turn while being distracted when calling in a faulty oyster reader and being a spare driver and swapping routes day after day the controller gets back to me when I'm about to make my turn, I respond at the junction and turn the wrong way lol

The only nearby route I can think of that has a mixture of single and double deckers is the 312, but surely when you get to your bus, let alone get in the cab you would distinguish between an E200 and an E400? (Not sure if TC has any E200's as the 289 is at TH )

I seem to recall another 197 doing the same thing a few years ago, I think it was a DW? Also a 196 hitting the bridge from the other side years ago, I think it was a Titan? I also remember a container lorry hitting it from that side and the impact causing it to overturn.

An Olympian from TH also lost part of its roof there when on the 312 it happened whilst the bus was running light though (driver was tin tacked)
