Funding has been agreed to increase line capacity between Sutton and Belmont. A £14.12 million package, part of the Levelling Up funding recently announced, will see a new turnback siding constructed to the South of Belmont Station. This will allow the number of trains between Sutton and Belmont to be increased to four per hour, some of which will operate direct to and from London Victoria. Belmont Station will also be upgraded as part of the funding package, with step-free access and waymarked walking and cycling routes to the London Cancer Hub which is about ten minutes walk away. A shuttle bus also links the Station with the Hub site and patients and visitors can use this. The funding will also increase accessibility for the adjacent Shankin housing estate, which is amongst the 20% most deprived in the country and where the lack of reliable public transport makes it harder for residents to commute to work and lift their income levels. A previous £32 million plan to double-track the railway all the way to Belmont failed to secure funding, but if demand increases to levels that require it, additional funding could still be sought. Full doubling would allow six trains an hour to serve Belmont. www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/trains-from-sutton-to-the-london-cancer-hub-to-double-in-frequency-60064/

I've read on Wikipedia there'll be two trains an hour between Brighton and Eastbourne from May. Have any more reliable sources confirmed this?

To quote the greatest and frankly hottest man alive who also may be my future husband, Henry Cavill. “Wikipedia, you’re using Wikipedia as your source of information. Tut tut tut.”

I had my final 313 ride today on the Seaford branch (very nice line scenery wise) and my first 171 ride on the Uckfield branch (thought I’d take advantage of the £2 flat fare via the 29 from Lewes to Uckfield)
NB: if anyone finds themselves in Lewes, I recommend grabbing a pastry snack from Bake Out, particularly the Bacon & Cheese Pasty

It won’t quite be open this summer…. I did see that it is an Autumn opening date and I had put above opening date to be announced in the Summer not that it will open in the Summer

Ended up needing to use trains from Abbey Wood today towards Dartford (The Rainham line). Seemed very strange using Thameslink trains here as I have always associated them running through central London and from London Bridge.

Very scenic route indeed.

Really handy link up to Farringdon though.
