I've just remembered that Assembly Member Val Shawcross did a report about bus service access to deprived areas / areas with low public transport access. I'm sure we've discussed it here before and I don't necessarily agree with bus route changes put forward. However it gives another dimension to the "deprived" area idea by using PTAL (Public transport accessibility level) values. www.valshawcross.com/val/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Public-Transport-Accessibility-v-Deprivation-FINAL-REPORT.pdfWhat is quite interesting is that a few of the examples in the report have received or will soon receive better services so someone at TfL has paid some attention - e.g. the 72 running more frequently and the upcoming 239, the 136 at North Peckham and the 481 getting a better service. Obviously there are plenty of remaining opportunities.

I'll nominate the P5 for serving the most deprived areas - riding it from end to end is a sobering experience - especially if you end up in the Patmore Estate. The 380 is a Lewisham borough equivalent, but interpersed with pleasant views of the O2. Second that - you start off in Elephants stupid new road network, then trundle down through Walworth Road before serving every side street between there & Camberwell New Road. Then down more back roads passing layers and layers of council housing including the dreaded Myatts Field & Angel Town (still dangerous places at times). If your still alive passing through Loughborough Junction, then you revel in passing another hellhole called Somerleyton (another dangerous place) before arriving in Brixton. The rest of the route apart from Patmore Estate isn't too bad lol. Vjaska, have a word with TFL, "We need this on the P5" Attachment Deleted

Lol, I'd die with laughter if this appeared on the P5 Wouldn't get any fare dodgers, and the sales of toilet paper, bicycle clips and brown corduroy trousers would go through the roof ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

I'd put some of the Newham trunk down for consideration as well, especially Manor Park, East Ham and the Royal Docks. The 147 jumps to mind most prominently. Not as severely deprived now as, say, 15 years ago, but the state of some of the built environment is shocking. Lamp posts everywhere on the pee, street litter left for days, a general lack of care shown by authorities and residents alike. There has been a lot of estate demolition between Canning Town and Custom House in the last decade and a lot of glass has gone up in its place, so it escapes the 'run down' category here on technicalities..
A prospective list of routes I would have put down in 2001 but no longer today, for additional consideration: 394 (blue bus guise, Angel-Broadway Market), 276, 236, 253, 115, 18, 178, 206, 36, 149, 25 (misses inclusion now by a hair's width), 78.

I'm in Canning Town its pretty rough but as you say changing with £300,000 flats being built. 147,241,325,300,473 goes through some pretty run down places. You would have had to have been brave to ride upstairs on the Free 541 when it ran especially in the evenings.

Newham seen very keen in keeping most of their main road older lampposts (WRTL MRL6's) going but have made serious in roads to their large side road stock of Thorn Beta 79's with at least 6 different types of LED lighting.

Really did not like it in Gravesend

Really did not like it in Gravesend The 401 may not be the most scenic route, but its short running time makes bus rides a lot more enjoyable. The 99 is a strange route, and I've never been on a 469 before but I know it follows the 177 along Eynsham Drive some way so...I could probably guess its not the most scenic either. I'm curious to explore the 244/380 beyond Plumstead Bus Garage. I've only been as far as Tom Cribb Road/Broadwater Road coming from Woolwich.

Beyond Broadwater Road, it has lots of modern housing, actually doesn't look too bad down there.
