TfL has launched a consultation today to make changes to routes serving the Tottenham Court Road and Gower Street areas. TCR buses consultation page -source: TfL consultation page Some of the changes are quite obvious and have been mentioned already. However more clarity has been given on standing arrangements for buses terminating there. It don't how these plans will work with out a ban on anything that is not a bike bus or taxi so many vehicles will be traversing that junction Respond quick just over a month til survey closes. Consultation closes Sunday 24 July 2016

I assume a right turn out of Gower St into New Oxford St will in future be banned hence the ludicrous route for the w/b 10. Who will bother using that in future?
Not convinced by some of the proposed stop locations as they continue the trend of making interchange between routes ever more cumbersome / dangerous / time consuming. I am also very sceptical about junction capacity near TCR given some of the stop locations. Can see there being blocking back given the new junction layout isn't very spacious IIR the plans correctly.
Just looking again at the stand / running through arrangements at Earnshaw St that's never going to work. Far too many buses likely to be standing there plus a load trying to run through plus taxis as well? It'll take 20 minutes to get through there - assuming there is empty roadspace between there and the junction with TCR / CX Road.

Where does N72 (in first pic) go I wonder? I also note in the second pic, 390 suddenly turns into an invisible shadow to continue from TCR to Notting Hill.

This is perfect apart from the stupid routing of the 10/176 via Earnshaw Street. I'd welcome a westbound 19/38 routing via Centerpoint

In general I agree with this whole consultation, I'm quite surprised as it's something I actually agree with from TFL for quite some time! Bar a few things obviously as TFL aren't perfect in strategic planning. I envision routes in and around the TCR area will adopt a more easily flowing structure very soon, as opposed to how it is now where they're all quite dispersed.
However, I would prefer if the w/b 10 and s/b 176 have a more direct routing, i.e. both routes turn right from Bloomsbury Street to New Oxford Street saving them having to negotiate around Centre Point. I guess that right turn will be banned in the near future. Additionally, this right turn ban would also prohibit the possibility of the s/b 134 turning left on to Great Russell Street and turn around via New Oxford Street to commence the n/b journey.
But I can't complain, I agree with TFL's prospects of routes running through the TCR area as it's about time this matter is examined in detail. It's strange that TFL haven't included the 98/N98 in this consultation as the route should *hopefully* revert back to Holborn.

As I've said before: "Consultation-we hear what you say but we'll do our thing anyway."

All the changes will take place over Easter weekend which includes road resurfacing tfl.gov.uk/status-updates/major-works-and-events/west-end-projectcontent.tfl.gov.uk/tottenham-court-road-restrictions-to-spring-2020.pdfResurfacing works on Tottenham Court Road Services will continue, but some bus stops on Tottenham Court Road will be temporarily closed to make works possible. From 08:00 on Monday 25 March to 16:00 Friday 26 April, routes 19, 38, N19, N38 and N41 towards Battersea/Victoria/Trafalgar Square will be on diversion via Drake Street and Proctor Street. From 08:00 Monday 8 April to 22:00 Saturday 13 April 2019, route 14 will not serve southbound stops on Gower Street or northbound stops on Tottenham Court Road. Route 14 will terminate at Tottenham Court Road Station. Use alternative bus routes to travel to and from University College Hospital. Route 176 towards Tottenham Court Road will be shortened and finish at stop A on Charing Cross Road. From Easter Bank Holiday weekend (19-22 April) Both northbound and southbound buses will use Tottenham Court Road. Buses will no longer run along Gower Street/Bloomsbury Street. This will be a permanent change.

Interesting that the north end of Shaftesbury Avenue loses the 14, 19/N19 and 38/N38 as they will run via TCR (route 14) or St Giles High Street and Charing Cross Road. Also a tiny bit surprising that there are no split stops on TCR southbound - every route serves every stop regardless of final destination.

That end of Shaftesbury Avenue was busless for a long time when the contraflow bus lane in Charing Cross Road came in - I was quite surprised when buses were reintroduced after a decade(?) or so. On the southbound stops, the cynic in me is thinking that once TfL have had their way there won't be too many 'competing' routes left.

I think buses only returned to that part of Shaftesbury Avenue because of the Crossrail works at TCR station.

I think buses only returned to that part of Shaftesbury Avenue because of the Crossrail works at TCR station. That's right, and the only bus stop on that stretch of road is at the Cambridge Circus end anyway, so Shaftesbury Avenue isn't really losing anything. For many years the westbound 19 and 38 have not stopped close to TCR station at all; the stop on St Giles High Street will be much more useful. Or perhaps I should say it would be very useful if the 19 wasn't being hacked back to such a useless terminus.

Are they getting rid of the northbound Percy Street stop?
