The P13 has also had numerous re-routings in the East Dulwich area, diverted away from Grove Hill Road to serve Pytchley Road and was also re-routed away from Lordship Lane between Whateley Road and Melford Road to serve Underhill Road.
Route 78. Extended to Forest Hill in part to replace capacity between FH and Dulwich library from Route 12, then curtailed to Peckham Rye and then extended to Nunhead.
185 was curtailed from Greenwich to Lewisham in the 80s.
Route P4 was re-routed from Lordship Lane and Court Lane to serve Dulwich Common and College Road in the early 90s.
Route P12, extended north from Peckham Bus Station to Surrey Quays using the former P13 route and south to Brockley Rise via Brenchley Gardens.
Route 63, cut between Honor Oak and Crystal Palace, replaced by Route 363.
Route 37, extended from Putney Station to Putney Heath.

I was on the 24 yesterday at Tottenham Court Road where a pair of foreign students asked to pay in cash after having a negative balance on their Oyster. It took a good 2-3 mins for them to find the change to pay the driver. At another stop, two tourists paid £2.40 each and were content to pay with cash than get Oyster.
July using buses in central London is about to get even more 'fun' than ever.

It's something local community groups have been pressing for, especially in Forest Hill where the frequency was cut when the 356 replaced the 194 between FH and Bell Green Sainsburys.

Apparently this route is also going to receive increased frequency during Mon-Sat daytime to every 15 mins.

If anything, some of the DW's should be on the 197 which still has DLA's and T's helping out.

If that was to happen, I'd hope the stand on Westbourne Drive is fully reinstated. Currently if a 176 does a turn in Forest Hill, it returns to London Road, parking outside the Capitol Wetherspoons which is far from desirable. I'd go for Sydenham rather than Forest Hill, the route is heavily used by students of Sydenham School who'd see capacity drop and could see an increase of use on the 197. Yes that's a fair point, it would need a stand at Cobbs Corner though. I've seen them park further up Kirkdale, which then misses the Cobbs Corner stop currently on a Sydenham turn. Lack of parking space in that area is an issue, unlike Forest Hill.

I'd be against moving the 176 from the Pawleyne Arms considering the interchange possibilities between it and the 75, 197, 356 and 358, although I agree that the bus stand is far from good. If I recall, the Crooked Billet stand was used as a stand for the old N176, which changed when the 176 became a 24 hour route? I think there were residents objections about buses using the Pawleyne Arms stand at night, nobody wants noisy VLA's outside their bedroom window at 2am, although it's usually T at night now anyway. The night service could be extended to Croydon anyway. If that was to happen, I'd hope the stand on Westbourne Drive is fully reinstated. Bromley council are not going to help out with the 176 issue. They do not care a jot about anything in Penge , it is almost literally the dumping ground for the entire borough, has labour councillors in a Tory dominated council chamber so very little gets done. If the 176 turned instead at Crooked Billet, the 354 would have to move. Perhaps the 354 could stand in Croydon Road instead of the 176 ? Route 176 is one of 9 SE London routes, the tenth being the 38 recognised as being overcrowded according to a London Assembly transport committee report published last November, which also includes the 185, which both serve the East Dulwich/Forest Hill corridor. I'm hardly shocked to hear that the 176 or 185 are busy / overcrowded. They have been for years and that's just based on observations at the Central London end of things! I'd argue and say the 185 has even loads throughout the route, all day, every day unlike the 176 where it's busier during the peaks, weekends and school holidays and is quieter between Forest Hill and Penge. As mentioned above, the route suffers from what I'll call 53 syndrome. Covered by rail for most of the route in the suburban areas, but has low income pockets along the route who can't afford to use the rail routes, yet affluent East Dulwich is the pinch point.

Not being funny but TfL have already identified that the 109 is overcrowded but yet seem disinterested in attempting to solve it yet it look likes the 176 will be getting measures put in place despite never being identified in any reports. Good for 176 users though, I won't rain on their parade if they get the required measures to help with overcrowding. After the recent improvements to Route P13, it appears TfL are also looking at increasing the frequency of Route 176, which already operates every 8 minutes.
In a reply to a local resident of Forest Hill as posted to SE23.com, TfL's MD of surface transport replies.

I haven't rode the route for a few years until Sunday, however the Citaro seats are very comfortable with generous room for wheelchairs and buggies.
