It’s weird that Bromley North is in Zone 4 but Bromley South is in Zone 5. The Epping part of the Central Line being in Zone 4 when most of it’s in Essex or on the Greater London border is stupid as well. It’s all political BS. Presumably the reason why Bromley South is in Zone 5 is due to the regular fast services to Victoria, while North is served by a branch line to Grove Park which involves a change for London Terminals.

I used to use that service to either go to Balham or to Clapham Junction for SWR services which made trips to Wimbledon or Richmond much more faster than going via Zone 1.
Getting to Clapham Junction now either involves getting the 176 or 185 to Denmark Hill and then the Overground or a train to East Croydon and then back up to Clapham Jnc.

At least the LO 5 car 378s have more standing space.

A tad frustrating that those Southern Metro services which had 8 car 455s are now 5 car 377s.

I think the 363 wins the award for being in a certain London borough depending in which direction it goes in.
Southbound: Southwark, Lewisham (Wood Vale), back into Southwark, then Lewisham (London Road, Sydenham Hill) then back into Southwark and then the bus stand at Crystal Palace bus station is in Bromley. (Before the bus stand opened, the route would cross the roundabout where Bromley, Croydon and Lambeth would meet, but boundary changes have changed that).
Northbound (Bus stand in Bromley) and then Southwark throughout as the route is inside the borough on the boundary roads in Sydenham Hill and Wood Vale.
197: Southwark, Lewisham, Bromley, Croydon.
176: Camden (Southbound only on Earnshaw Street and St Giles High Street), Westminster, Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Bromley.
185: Westminster, Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham.
356: Croydon, Bromley, Lewisham, Southwark (Towards Upper Sydenham only).
227: Bromley, Lewisham, Southwark.

I think the original plan was for Thameslink to take over the Tattenham Corner services, but that became the Southern fasts to Caterham/Tattenham Corner, separating at Purley, which led to them replacing the Southeastern Metro stoppers to the Medway Towns.

In the near future at least, the Elizabeth line will ensure that Thamesmead will have a faster connection to Central London using the existing bus network that can feed passengers to Abbey Wood or Woolwich stations. It's not perfect, but it'll be a lot better than the current situation where they have to wait for Southeastern or Thameslink services that crawl towards London Bridge.
As for Camberwell, unlike Thamesmead, it has excellent bus connections to Oval, Brixton and Elephant & Castle tube stations in addition to those who live in south Camberwell who can access Denmark Hill Overground station. Loughborough Junction isn't far away either from Camberwell for Thameslink.

SOUTHERN:
Extend the current 2tph London Bridge to East Croydon stopper service via Forest Hill to Charing Cross, restoring a link to Charing Cross lost since 2009. Reinstate the 2tph London Bridge to Victoria service via Crystal Palace on weekdays. The Gatwick Express branded services to Brighton would additionally stop at East Croydon but not at Clapham Junction.
LONDON OVERGROUND:
An extra 2tph between Dalston Junction and Crystal Palace and Dalston Junction to Clapham Junction. (West Croydon isn't currently an option until the East Croydon improvement works are implemented.)
SOUTHEASTERN:
2tph: Cannon Street to Bromley South via Lewisham and Catford Bridge. This would give 6tph to Ladywell, Catford Bridge, Lower Sydenham and New Beckenham with new connections to Beckenham Junction, Shortlands and Bromley South using the slots for the current 2tph Victoria to Bromley South stoppers.
The current 2tph Bromley South terminators would go to Swanley.
THAMESLINK:
The Rainham services would also call at Belvedere and Erith, reinstating a 6tph service between Deptford and Charlton to those stations further down the Greenwich line.

I've heard the 185 is expected to be cut from 7.5 to 6bph soon. Interesting when you only consider it was increased a few years ago. From what I still see of it it definitely still justifies a 7.5 bph. Perhaps the 40 would've been a better candidate? Agreed, the 40 is a much shorter route and has lost the useful connection from Dulwich to London Bridge and the city since it was rerouted to Clarkenwell Green. I think the 40 was cut at the end of last year anyway? The 7.5bph on the 185 makes the difference between getting a chance of a seat or standing up on that route.

The 12 at one point ran some journeys from Willesden Junction to South Croydon although most started from Park Royal and ran in two overlapping sections, South Croydon to Oxford Circus and Dulwich to Park Royal/Willesden Junction (Harlesden).

As I mentioned in the Central London bus cuts thread, I believe the travel patterns have changed immensely on the 12 with passengers from Dulwich along Barry Road preferring to change at Peckham Rye for London Overground and Thameslink trains into Zone 1 than go at a snails pace along Peckham Road and Walworth Road into Zone 1. With the 197, there's still 10bph between Dulwich and Peckham.
IMHO the loads on the 176 and 185 which also serve Zone 1 from Dulwich have returned to near pre-pandemic levels from my own observations with even heavy loads on Sundays as a contributing factor.

The 12's issue of going round the long way to Dulwich wasn't so much an issue until the 176 replaced the southern section of the route between Dulwich and Penge in 1988. Then it lost the useful Oxford Circus to Notting Hill Gate section (It was also cut from Shepherd's Bush Green to Notting Hill).
It wasn't so much of an issue until the rail services improved from Peckham Rye with what I suspect from Dulwich is being used as a feeder route along with the 197 to take passengers from Dulwich to the train station (Dulwich Library also has passengers who use the 176, 185 and 197 to Forest Hill, another London Overground station), so the demand for commuting from Barry Road to Zone 1 by bus has lessened, not helped by 20mph limits and increased traffic.
The Dulwich terminus seems to be purely for operational convenience these days and the two stands in Friern Road and Lordship Lane for the 12 look more archaic than ever when they were designed for high frequency artics for a route that will have the same frequency as the 197.

Staggering that the 12 which at one point had a very high frequency will have less bph than the 176 which was cut to 6bph in Dulwich.
However with the 197, there will still be 10bph between Dulwich and Peckham along Barry Road.
I think the Overground service from Peckham Rye is another factor which is a more attractive proposition than going at a snail's pace through Peckham, Camberwell and Walworth to reach central London.

I remember when Croydon used to have bus routes going to Guildford, East Grinstead, Crawley and Dartford, but Redhill, Epsom and Heathrow seems to be it these days.

363 towards Elephant & Castle has great views into Central London from Sydenham Hill. As an aside, I remember when the 63 served Sydenham Hill with Titans and they'd take forever to get up the hill!
