To add to the misery there's also rail strikes on 20, 22, 29 July, meaning a week and a half of industrial action. Last time there was a tube strike (15 March) I had to take the bus to work, a train journey from central London which would have normally taken 1 hour, took 3 hours by bus and most of the buses were rammed. Well so only 2 options for people who actually work: - drive the car every day. So 25 miles of driving for me each day, make it 30 as I will for sure end up taking some random longer rat-run. Also start late / finish early so that’s more productivity killed off - wfh for 2 weeks. Will end up barbecuing if weather is nice or the 2 kids will ensure I get less done Hurrah. Then we wonder why the economy is slow …. Exactly, i don’t work in central but you can bet my office will close as well due to the expected extra traffic on the roads. I better prepare two weeks worth of PJs.

Unfortunately train strikes impact so much misery on people! They're striking on Ascot race days (tube on 28th and rail on 29th). Yes Ascot is not in London but people still come from London to go to Ascot races. It's not the biggest horseracing fixture but people do travel by train to Ascot and especially on the Saturday this will negatively impact ticket sales. They did the same on Epsom Derby days. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure they went on strike on both 2 and 3 June this year.

I indicated in an earlier post, there was no LU strike action on 3 June - this is an LU “July Tube strike” thread, in an LU and Overground section of the forum.

Nothing to do with the Government at all no , it's Finn Brennan and Mick Lynch fault that the economy is slow 😂😂 Long and short of it is if you don't fight for your rights you won't have any like the courier industry mostly self employed don't earn great money , like Royal Mail which has hardly any full time roles anymore and like the bus industry outside London in a lot of places £11 an hour for a skilled job that you end up being repeatedly told isn't a skilled job but when people give up these "unskilled" jobs country comes to a halt so have to do what you have to do to preserve your income/work benefits in my opinion , pain in the arse and probably won't get anywhere like with the on board supervisors dispute and the incoming ticket office dispute but if you don't try you will never get anywhere .

Issue is that these people are obviously draining money out of the economy for jobs which don't justify their salary. Why does a tube driver earn more than a brain surgeon? The fact is driving isn't a skilled job compared to analysts, scientists and doctors. There's a difference between what is an important job and what is a high skilled job. The government even have a list of what classes as skilled worker now for visa purposes.

It's very hard to become a train driver I think you need to have work at tfl before working as an underground train driver.

It's hard to become a tube driver because the salary is inflated for the worth of the job, anyone would love to do a job where you sit around earning far more than you should, so naturally the job is very competitive. It's people like this who bleed the public purse, then obviously complain when they're in A&E and have a long wait due to understaffing. You need to make savings somewhere and excessive costs like this is where you should start.

Just seen this. Wow. I can’t remember a strike lasting all week before. The impact on buses all that week will be huge.

And more than likely these people have some form of private healthcare you can't blame Tube drivers for delays in A&E due to understaffing come on .

Because other disciplines such as scientists, analysts and surgeons earn less. All generally come out of the public purse so only finite money available to fund them. Unless you really do think that tube drivers should be earning more than the three disciplines I've mentioned.

Tube drivers are bleeding the public purse, its money that's being wasted on them that's resulting in underpayment and underfunding of other sectors. Not to mention a notable source of TfL's financial woes. Not sure whether I'd class an MP as a skilled job as anyone can become one.

Not saying that driving a train is unskilled but some people in the NHS earn less arguably doing a higher skilled job. With the long hours and low pay it's no wonder that people quit to find other professions and the NHS is left overwhelmed
