Dammit, they noticed Examples I find every now and then 'The 481 uses a mixture of really new buses and ancient buses from the 1980's' or when an OV turned up on the 33 once 'This isn't an electric bus, TFL are lying!'

I'm surprised there hasn't been an outcry from the Peckham area about hybrids being replaced with diesels. Could be a lot of punters don't really notice as different models appear along the 63/363 overlap. I wouldn't be surprised if some absentmindedly saw the refurbished DOEs as new buses. The G1 scenario stands out more as most of the route runs by itself and with only one type model (for the most part) which those punters had been used to.

"Angry residents criticised Mayor Sadiq Khan after discovering six buses, at least a decade old, were recently moved from Putney High Street to the G1 service in south-west London." And here I thought that non-enthusiasts wouldn't even notice! . At least the article mentioned the route 63 buses being swapped too! Maybe they read this forum, or another group? Plus being a resident and an enthusiast is not mutually exclusive! Having said that, many people do notice if a different bus than usual turns up. Recent examples of mine are: Primary school kids on the 120 thinking a TA/TLA was new (so tempting to say that it was older than them! ) and a guy being really surprised when a VWH turned up on the 105 I've said before that the media dig around all over the place including enthusiast forums. So do TfL and so do transport operators. People seem not to realise that their more outrageous statements, unless clearly identified as a joke or humour, can end up in front of the people or organisations being criticised. And it's not without its consequences if people choose to react. As you say people do notice when vehicles change. A route like the G1 will have a regular clientel because it has several "freehold" sections where it is the only route. Those people will spot that things have changed plus, of course, the G1 runs through what was Mr Khan's constituency and not too far from his front door. The other problem with saying you're going to have cleaner buses is that this aligns in people's heads to "New buses" which, of course, is NOT what is going to happen in a lot of London because it's completely unaffordable. Furthermore talk about "electric single decks" will also lead people to wrongly conclude that *all* single deckers will be electric very soon. Not true of course but people are selective in what they read and want to believe. Also Wandsworth, as a Tory borough, won't waste an opportunity to kick a Labour Mayor if it can.

Because bus stops in london are so far apart.............................................. The police were bang out of order-he should of been fined! And if he didn't pay the fixed penalty would the CPS have prosecuted him? I very much doubt it. So we let people get away with stuff because they might not pay a FPN?

That's the trouble with such schemes if new hybrids aren't bought in, start nicking them from other routes and sooner or later somebody is going to notice. I'm surprised there hasn't been an outcry from the Peckham area about hybrids being replaced with diesels. This is Peckham we're on about - you could drop a nuclear bomb on it and it would improve lol. In all seriousness, I'm a little surprised there hasn't been much fuss given the area is slowly becoming gentrified but it could be, as M1104 pointed out, to be with other buses regularly running alongside as well and that some DOE's look brand new due to the refurb.

London Travelwatch and TfL are having a "twitter chat" about bus services today at 1300-1400. Time to ask some questions. EDIT - oh dear my Twitter account just fired off a load of questions.

Anyone know how long the 249 takes end to end? I might be sent out on one tomorrow for the last day with one of the drivers who are taking the bus out of Stockwell.

It's on the duty card somewhere but I haven't been bothered to read it yet even though i was filing duty cards yesterday! 😂

I did say finding out that some drivers intentionally drive slowly to get a turn would make me paranoid, but I think it happened yesterday. A traffic free, mid afternoon, ride from St James Street on the 212 to Wadham Road.
Driver leaves at 12:15, so I think he was 8 minutes late. No driver change, no traffic, not many passengers and it took 30 minutes to get to my destination which was at least 8 minutes slower than the schedule (Overall 16 minutes late). We were overtaken by a 212 who had a driver change!. The driver then got a turn on the return from Chingford!!! Frustrating journey to say the least.
Also, when I was regular in Highams Park, I would always write to TfL/Council to sort out the traffic light phasing at the Forest Road/Fulborne Road junction. Accidents waiting to happen, and have in the past. The blind turn from Fulborne Road to Forest Road, should have filter, and in order of phasing should be after the Forest Road traffic not before it. And the 212 drivers should know by now not to block their colleagues turning into Fulborne Road. Both my two journeys the 212's blocked each other, the second of whom was completely ignorant to the possibility.
