Hearing from many of my colleagues the 301 has been very busy over the last few days. Today from doing the 401s this morning I’ve been seeing 301s half full / near full during the rush hour. I saw a 301 in Thamesmead heading to Bexleyheath the same direction the upper and lower saloon most seats were taken. My bus was nearly full up by the time I got to the end of Nuxley Road. I expect by the end of the week it will be even busier. Bexleyheath Clock Tower the loadings are quite high as well. September it will be very busy. Hearing from Colleagues today what a lot of people are doing is boarding any bus in Crossway then getting off at Boiler House to wait for the 301 to Bexleyheath because it is quicker. I even saw a fully loaded bus coming into Bexleyheath this morning. The 401 now mainly picks up Yarnton Way & Nuxley Village Passengers. In addition if you want to get from Woolwich to Bexleyheath even faster, its quicker to get the 99 to Woolwich Road/Brampton Road & Wait for the 301 on the opposite side of the road. I can see many doing this too.

I am just somewhat upset because I was avoiding drinking water to stay hydrated in this already humid weather in the morning, and then still need in use of toilet and then there is no toilet, and next toilet is 1.5 hours away and on my way back I was already dying for toilet again, so best decision I ever made. Thanks TFL for providing drivers with toilets...I am a dude ok, what if it's a woman driver? We're literally messing with our health...sure if I called controller he could have shipped me light to garage or whatever but in reality no driver will be desperate enough to make a call like that.

There should be toilets at one end of every route at least but some drivers do themselves and their colleagues no favours at all. We had a discussion on here a while back and somebody mentioned a newsagent at the Grovelands terminus of the R1 kindly allowing drivers to use the toilet and it was often left filthy and the offer was withdrawn. Then of course there was the money wasted on the turdis fiasco at the Biggin Hill terminus of the R2, yet there are far busier termini with no facilities.

Just call up. They have to facilitate an en route toilet relief if requested. On the route I drive, there are only toilets on one end of the route, and it can be up to 3 hours for a rounder. I myself have been caught short a few times and have requested a toilet break at Abbey Wood. A lot of my colleagues tend to pee in a bottle or on the back wheel. I know one (female) who carries around a special bottle with her for such eventualities. I think the official stance is request an en route relief as someone told me you can be sacked for peeing on the wheel or in a bottle etc.

With such a modern network I couldn’t agree more. Every Journey Matters Yes, but every Toilet Break Matters as well!

The B12 is similar because the Toilet is at Erith and the entire route is ome round trip taking roughly 1 Hr & 1/2 however I’ve seen drivers take quick toilet breaks at Bexleyheath Friswell Place.

I believe they are going around installing more toilets at termini as I noticed one popped up in Tulse Hill a while back.

I can see many doing this too. Is that faster than taking the 96 when factoring an average 6 minute wait for the 301? Funnily enough I was just thinking the other day that Woolwich to Bexleyheath must now be a contender for having the most direct but different route options between distant towns.

I think Woolwich to Lewisham and Morden to Sutton each have direct links via five different routes. And surely with the two circulars there must be places in Harrow that have multiple direct links.

You have a choice of six bus routes to get between Greenford and Ealing

A lot quicker I would say. 10 mins from Bexleyheath to Brampton Road then 10 from Woolwich Road to Woolwich. Adding in Waiting time too. The 301 end to end is probably faster than the 96. The 96 sits in a lot of traffic in Welling so is slower.

When the trams (out of New Cross and Abbey Wood) were replaced by buses 182 and 186 the same arrangements pertained, though I never remember 21 bus crews stopping there. I guess Southwark Bridge had no nearby WCs!
