Hi all
Some of you may call me mad, but tomorrow I have an interview for driving for Metrobus at Orpington Depot, have to go to Crawley for the interview though. Have had to read over the highway code over the past week or so as i havent read it for getting on 4 years since i passed my car test, plus touch up on my maths skills as i havent done maths in 2 years (since my first year at university).

Good luck with your interview, do you have a plan B should things not go your way?

All the best Mate. By chance have you driven for a bus company before or is this your first stint?

All the best Mate. By chance have you driven for a bus company before or is this your first stint? First time ive driven for a bus company, but ive been driving a 15 seat ford transit for the past year at uni (it can be driven on a normal car licence, as long as your not using it for profit reasons and over 21) and dealing with passengers through a volunteer service the Student Union provided late at night to get students home for the past 3 years, both are part of the same scheme but i just moved last year from being a co driver to driver for the service.

Nice going mate. How long was the interview for? I am thinking of applying there for the Croydon Depot, bearing in mind I am still waiting for Arriva, Abellio and Go Ahead to get back to me.

Both tests last 20 mins, the maths one is pretty simple though, as long as you can do long addition and subtraction and simple multiplication your fine, and the highway code questions are for a car confusingly, after me reading the one about buses for the past week, luckily i still passed it though.

My first stint in the bus industry was with metrobus. I passed the highway code and maths tests and then I had to drive a bus to see if I had what it takes.
Considering I only just passed my car test a few months ago, I was actually terrified and I failed miserbly. I never driven an automatic vehicle before and I couldn't get to grips with how big the vehicle was and I never use my nearside mirror. But the manager looked at my age and took me on.
I noticed that other people who was with me were familiar with driving a van of some sort. Maybe things are different now but the usual tip is just to check both those mirrors and you should have no trouble getting through the driving test.

Cheers for that advice, will keep it in mind for the 20th. My driving assessment will be in one of their little shuttle minibuses which drivers use for crew changes.

Passed the interview today and have my medical on Friday . Need to start revising though for the Theory Test and Hazard Perception. The interviewer was pleased i was an enthusiast (he is one too) and he likes it when those type of people apply for the job, as they take pride in it.
