Gotta love what my mentor said, you will run late today cause it's Market Day in Swanley so will get a turn but did i get one turn...nope, as 5 out of 7 trips were bang ontime and the others wernt that far out, under 5 late which isn't bad going for my 2nd day in service.

End of my first week in service, and no problems were encountered, and still no turns. I did have someone today try and get on for free and i refused point blank to let him on, he had a great excuse of i only wanted to top up £5 and the shop didnt have change (yh yh and i dont have change of your £10 at 6:30am), in the end he paid with a contactless bank card but hey ho.

I knew one driver who would purposely bring to work bags of coins for that exact situation. Nevertheless you handled it well. He rarely had to open the coin bags as the punters would usually give in one way or another.

I used to do it as well - went to the station, changed a £20 note into 10ps then kept them in a sock. The first clown of the night to try that trick would see me tip most of those coins out of the sock and push them through the tray. Miraculously, everyone paid up with the right change when they saw I was serious. A good psychological trick with the "oi boss man, I ain't got no money" types is to comment on their clothes and say they look like they're well off (flossin' or ballin' the slang terms.) Say it with complete sincerity and they will always pay up. Say it in the wrong way and it will cause problems Well done for sticking to your guns jay38a - more bus drivers should be engaged enough to collect the fares!

So saying something like "my dear chap, you are terribly well dressed for someone from Brixton innit" might not work then?

Well, in America, you get passengers paying in pennies that go into the fare box. Here is few videos I have found on YouTube that the passengers are using the coppers (1 cent & 2 cent coins) from the jar to pay their fare, so they stand by the driver putting change in while the driver is driving the bus. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_yWaTJoCNkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=vj4O1Re02gcwww.youtube.com/watch?v=M4K-n3He2ogBut the fact is, In the UK the legal tender to pay in 1p's & 2p's is 20p. In America there is no limit on paying with pennies. So thats why there are people paying their fines in pennies which will make the workers do overtime to collect the change!

Eventually something different, B14s on Monday, will be nice not to do the 233 even if it's for one day only.

Wanted to say a big thank you for all the information that you have put on here, it has helped me pass my assessments and interview and am now waiting for my license to arrive back from Dvla before I can start training
