Routes I try to avoid, but end up having to get them because I'm going to miss my bus! Anyway, the 319 and 345 between 0730 and 0750 in the mornings. Why? They get busy very, very quick. It never used to be like this, this academical year has given the routes more school children -_-
Buses I try to avoid... Apart from SP38 and 9765 (horrrrrible buses), I'd get on any bus.

They are poor when compared to the brilliant & powerful VLA1-73. Yeah, but VLA 56-73 are Voith! Not ZF But still, IIRC, 249's 10m VLAs (ranging around 100-128) were similar to 74-78. (Note, 11x-128 are now with 370 at GY) I know what gearbox the VLA's are on - that's got nothing to do with it either. If you listen very closely to VLA1-73 and then listen to VLA74-78, you can hear and hopefully see the difference between them - 'The Urbanite' knows what I'm talking about. The 249 & 432 had VLA104-128 which were just as bad and are 10.1m - VLA104-108 is at BN along side gutless 54 reg VLA101-103. VLA109 is now 6109 for the 142 with 6110-6120 (formerly VLA110-120) for the 370. 6121-123 (formerly VLA121-123) are also with The Shires whilst VLA124-128 I believe are still at DX.

I like the 235, but not its buses - I can't stand the Caetanos, they are just so knackered and rattly, despite any Adblue thing which will sadly prolong them - and it looks like the slightly newer ones from the 112 will start filtering on to the route A few nice E200's are the only occasional ray of sunshine here. Any Volvo B7TooLoud, especially ones without the fan mod... I used to avoid the 192 due to its reliability and knackered buses, and the 318 for that same reason - and the frequent stand-offs between other cars on the packed back streets of Northumberland Park - like Rosebery Ave and Shelbourne Road Any slowly driven 4 or 5 series DW when there's opportunity to thrash (fast sections of the 123, or 243 when it's early in the day, or late at night)

Any bus serving a large school community between 3-4 I try to avoid Crystal Palace around those time because the 417 is unbearable or uncatchable as it passes so many schools. The other route I tend to avoid is the 159 for going to Brixton, for the uncomfortable seats and mainly because there is too high a risk of it waiting at Telford Avenue for a driver change while several other routes pass by. But with it being such a busy corridor it is easy to just wait for the next one. I'm used to the 417, yeah it does pass around 5 schools or so. 109 also changes drivers at BN. I tend to rather take 133, 250 or 333 if possible to avoid this. Sometimes when I'm on 109/159, my driver doesn't change.

I prefer DD routes because one of the main reasons I like travelling by bus is the great view you get which isn't that great on SDs.
I don't like AE's routes because I often find the driving standards and the vehicles in a really poor state. But I still take them if required.
The 339 during the peak times because it's a low frequency route but nearly always packed during the peak. I usually use an alternative.
And then you've got the 25... And the Gemini 2/B9TL...

Optare Spectras are quite fun from what I've seen, definitely would like one considering I've only used one once on the 3.

Used to love the combination of the engine and ZF sound, especially the whine in first gear just after the torque break.
