A young adult female attempted to board a 226 bus at Dollis Hill Station stop last night. She was carrying a bag containing a closed box of fried chicken. The driver refused to allow her on the bus because he "couldn't stand the smell" and other passengers would be complaining. I was behind her and she was almost in tears as she turned around to get off the bus. Very unreasonable, especially at 10:30 at night.

Sounds bad, but the driver should have let the girl on the bus, and if the other passengers kick off because of the smell, then she can deal with that! The chicken box wouldn't have stayed closed, and the driver would have to face chicken bones and other stuff left at the back of the bus when he gets back to the garage (used to happen all the time on the 149's bendies) Not too sure how regular the 226 is, hopefully she ate her chicken whilst waiting for the next bus

Food should be banned on buses. All of it? How do I get my groceries home from the supermarket? I understand the issues with heated food and spillages / litter but I don't see the harm if I want to eat a cold sandwich or a bag of crisps and I take my litter home with me.

I'm not a driver but I don't imagine having to drive a single-decker bus that smells of a KFC kitchen being a particularly pleasant experience... Nothing wrong with a sandwich or a bag o' crisps provided it isn't Cheese and Onion but hot fried food emits an appetizing or disgusting odor, depending on how hungry one is. I love fried chicken as much as the next guy but there's a place for it... I understand a lot of these fried chicken joints have minimal or no seating and people might want to sit down... but could you keep it outside? Oh, and there's not much more annoying than seeing a box of grotty chicken bones on a seat that you're planning to sit on. Dirty bastards. If I was in the driver's seat in this situation however, I might possibly be a bit sympathetic about the whole thing, because at 10:30pm, out there be wolves and all.

It's the last part of that sentence that's important snoggle. A vast number of people who consume food on a bus don't bother to take their litter home with them. An empty crisp packet or empty sandwich packet might not smell but the leftover chicken bones certainly do! At the moment, I'm doing late R7s and it's not unusual to have people bringing hot food on. The bringing of hot food onto the bus doesn't bother me (apart from making me hungry, especially if it's hot chips! Mmmmmm) but the leaving behind of leftovers certainly does bother me. And when I've pointed out to someone they've left something behind I'm met with either blank stares or abuse Should hot food be banned on buses? On balance, since people do seem strangely reluctant to take their rubbish away with them, I say yes it should. I have no problem with snoggle eating a sandwich or a packet of crisps though

All open food and drink is banned on Brighton & Hove buses and has been for many years now. I do eat on buses but I always take my rubbish with me because it's manners at the end of the day. I'd quite happily support a ban of all open food, hot or cold, on buses because there are far too many rude and dirty people who don't dispose of their rubbish in a bin.

I have no problem with snoggle eating a sandwich or a packet of crisps though Some people have this stubborn thing where they deliberatly leave litter as "It keeps someone in a job", I don't think that gives anyone a reason to litter. If you use it dispose it, not leave it for the Bus Cleaners. I've seen All types of crap, Banana Peelings (Dangerous slipping hazard), Chicken Bones on Seats, smashed vodka bottles, crisp packets, bottles, newspaper. Some people also think its OK to Fart on buses, which is foul.

We don't have Morley's north of the River, so I doubt the 'Kansas Fried Chicken' or other crappy knockoff tasted any better
